Creepers

As the many races in the Overlands grew and changed, the great Earth goddess Gaia noticed that they slowly became less attuned to the earth. So, she decided to make a creature that would stay perfectly tuned to nature, and would care and protect it. So, in that moment of inspiration, she formed the first Creepers. She took earth from the ground to form its muscles and bones, and leaves from the trees and plants, woven deftly together, to be a skin for the Creepers. Then, she breathed magic into them, and they awoke for the first time.


Gaia formed the Creepers to be unique to every other race in their goal to protect nature and life. Male Creepers stand about 6 feet tall, and female Creepers about 5 feet. They stand on four spider-like legs, jutting out from each corner of their waist. They have two arms, and have a thin frame, much like elves. Finally, Gaia chose not to give the Creepers eyes, but instead, enhanced their other senses of smell and hearing to allow the Creepers to sense their surroundings. Baby Creepers are hatched from eggs, and are typically a dusty brown color. As they age, male Creepers will gain greener skin, while female Creepers remain the same brown. Creepers are considered mature by the age of 25, and often live for up to 500 years. Creepers do not eat, and instead absorb nutrients from the ground.


Due to their balance with nature, Creepers typically have little to no strong armor or weapons. This causes most attackers to underestimate them. However, Creepers balance out this weakness with physical prowess and skill. Creepers are well trained in hand-to-hand combat, especially unarmed combat. Creepers gain 2 attribute points per level they earn, and automatically gain +1 to Strength and +2 to Dexterity and Agility each level.


Creepers have no sub races, but instead, have split into various main tribes across the Overlands which care for the various aspects of Gaia’s creation, and can adapt to their environment even better than humans can. There are five unique tribes of Creepers: the Tera’sar, the Guh’sar, the Helo’sar, the Ari’sar, and the Nyco’sar. All of the tribes share the same language, called “Cree-das”, meaning “Creeper Tongue” in the language. However, they do not always share the same customs or traditions.


Tera’sar


Tera’sar, meaning “Forest Protectors”, live in the many forests and jungles of the Overlands. The Tera’sar people are considered the strongest tribe, notably because they relentlessly attack anyone who harms the forest they live in. They have adapted to have deeper colored skin, and have leafy hair or fur to provide camouflage in the forests. Most Tera’sar tribes have strict training, and Tera’sar children are usually trained well in a weapon skill by the age of 20. Due to their widespreadness, they are considered the basis for Creepers by many other races.


Guh’sar


Guh’sar, meaning “Mountain Protectors”, live in or around mountain ranges. Guh’sar have adapted to have a thicker skin and sharp claws at the end of their fingertips. They have a strict code of conduct to follow, and Guh’sar also often protect underground caves or ravines from being excavated. Guh’sar are not quick to violence, due to the confidence they have in their protective skin. If provoked, however, Guh’sar are vicious, and leave no aggressor alive.


Helo’sar


Helo’sar, meaning “Air Protectors”, live in open grassy plains. Helo’sar cannot fly, although they do have magical training to gain the skill to walk on air. Their lungs can inhale polluted air, as well as cleanse it and release it back into the environment. Helo’sar are a lot like monks in their culture, and worship the sky god, Helius, in addition to Gaia. Helo’sar are a very peaceful tribe, and are almost never violent or aggressive.


Ari’sar


Ari’sar, meaning “Desert Protectors”, live, as you might expect, in desert areas, including mesas. They protect the desert ecosystem from imbalance, and are the most adapted of the five tribes. Most Ari’sar require little nutrients, and their skin keeps the dusty brown color of Creeper youths. Ari’sar also have many strict religious ceremonies and rituals to honor Gaia.


Nyco’sar


Nyco’sar, meaning “Ice Protectors”, live in taiga forests and tundra areas. Nyco’sar are well adapted to resist the bitter cold. Nyco’sar are also the most magically adept of the five tribes, able to harness both water and earth magic with ease. Like, Helo’sar, Nyco’sar are slow to warfare, but when they are attacked, they will fight to the last Creeper.
