Coming Back To This Server From A Few Years Ago.

Me and my friends decided we want to play this server again, we are making new characters. Should we wait till after the update to start playing?

 

nah, alot of the update updates stuff level 40 and higher, by the time the update hits you won't be affected too much

 

Most of the incoming content is going to be in gavel (the most important new stuff is roughly level 60+), so it shouldn't matter too much whether you wait for it or not if you're starting new characters.

if you do do the quests getting revamped in 1.20 most likely they will get reset so you can do it again so you wont lose anything from making classes now
