Guide Psa: Braker Is A Good Spell Spear

So, many of you saw this on Braker:


And got scared away

But what you probably didn't know is that Braker has the weapon baseline of a mythic, actually in excess of some mythics


So, what does this mean? It means that even with -70% spell damage on Braker, it is not only a viable option in spell it is actually good. Braker benefits from stacking high spell damage% (or water damage% or thunder damage% etc...). Meaning, that it is a very good thunder spear, exceeding Quinque damage sometimes (If both weapons were in builds with 238% spell damage, Braker would do more damage), and is the ONLY good water spear that does not have an agility req.

To illustrate my point:
Take this ETW build with Braker, for instance, it reaches 17.5k unboosted uppers, putting Quinque in the build only gives it marginally more damage (17.6k unboosted uppers), and costs you a powder special.

The same case with EWF Tidebinder, but to a much much more exaggerated degree. This Braker build hits 14.7k unboosted uppers, while this tidebinder build reaches only 11k unboosted uppers.

Braker is also really really good at abusing powder specials for this reason

Tldr:
Braker has such high base damage that the -spell% is not as bad as it sounds, and is a good spell spear

How do you calculate item base damage like that?

It's just a rudimentary multiplication of the weapon's average base damage times its effective attack speed multiplier, in this case,

675x1.5=1012.5 (for an unpowdered braker)

742.5x1.5=1113.75 (for a thunder powdered braker)

Its really just for comparing base damages between weapons

 

Adding to kiocifer. A much easier way is sort for damages x attack speed in wynndata.


When searching for it, the x isn't actually an x. So it won't recognize the x. Just scroll down or search for "damages" Doesn't account for powder slots though.

 

Yeah, that's a great way of figuring out which weapons have higher base damage, but it does fail to really show the numerical differences, like how it puts grim and cata right next to each other, which doesn't show the fact that cata has nearly 1.7x more damage than grim, which is absurd.

Calculating the base damage is also important in this scenario as well, since without a good comparison of numbers, it's hard to see how much stronger braker is than other spears for spell.

 

Braker is the best-designed item in the game.
