    i'm sure by now a lot of you have heard of one of the new major ids: explosive impact. i'm also sure that most of you know what it does, but for those who dont:
    it seems pretty straightforward, but upon further investigation (i literally just asked), it was confirmed that spell hits will count for this.

    first, remember that explosions do the damage of one of your build's melee attacks
    second, remember that a single melee attack in heavy melee stinger (without obby, as explosive impact is on scarlet veil, a helmet) can do upwards of 20k average damage on a single hit, with assassin exceeding these values via vanish
    third, remember that a typical heavy melee build can and will approach or reach 100% exploding depending on the weapon and accessories
    fourth, remember that arrow storm hits up to 60 times, multihit can hit up to 11 times, totem is a massive ring of constantly ticking damage that lasts 20 seconds, etc
    fifth, remember that exploding probably doesnt damage the mob it procs on, according to selvut


    for the sake of theorycrafting and making it easier on myself, let's use assassin, the class i'm most familiar with. i've made a bit of a mock-up build, which you can see here (i got 68 dex because i really do not feel like spending time doing more math than i need to, and like this i can just find the average between normal and crit dph really easily)

    the average melee attack is going to deal 34456.5 damage in one hit while in vanish
    multihit is going to hit mobs 11 times

    theoretically speaking, if you were to either grab ahold of an invincible minion or singled out a typical bulkier minion to prevent it from dying right away, you could use the exploding that ticks eleven times to deal up to an average of 379021.5 damage to a single enemy dealt per multihit via exploding


    on the other side that isn't boss-killing or an example unnecessarily limited to assassin for the sake of simplicity, basically every single damaging spell turns into a horde killer. smoke bomb will just proc exploding until everything is dead or only one mob is left, and totem will do the same.

    basically, as long as there is more than one mob that you are attacking, all of your spells are going to hit for, or exceed the damage of a heavy melee attack--in other words, they are going to seriously hurt.



    tl;dr: explosive impact applies to spells. pull heavy melee shenanigans to get massive damage dealt per spell by triggering tons of explosions.



    what are y'all thoughts on this? do you think explosive impact is going to be as ridiculous as described in this thread? discuss, or something like that i guess



    note: as this major id hasnt been officially released, it's impossible to know if it functions exactly the way we believe it will as i talk about it in this thread. the conclusions i've drawn are educated guesses, and are likely how it will work, but is by no means a guarantee.

    So far the main experience I have with it is that it's an ID you can get in the grootslang raid buff rooms and someone ALWAYS pick it up while playtesting, leading to the whole party being constantly blinded by all the explosion particles. it'll happen to y'all too because everybody in the ct wants to keep it "for the memes"

    I honestly can see exploding only working based on the percent chance. Instead of an item w/ the id at, say 10%, it won't explode on every hit but instead will explode statistically once every ten hits. This way you don't have people using items with literally 5% exploding to clean out entire armies. This will be different for items like Collapse or Zero as they have exploding that exceeds 100%. This can be paired with tier stacking, which I think is what the Scarlet Veil is mostly intended to be used for, especially knowing that it's elemental defense hit, neutral damage boost, and major id scream Collapse. A build using Scarlet Veil and Collapse or Zero is definitely going to be something to watch out for.

    If I'm also going to guess, this will probably get balanced out as 1.20 and updates after that roll out.

    Maybe just have the explosions activated by spells just do spell damage, and the AoE can remain? The only real problem with this ID is the damage calculations displayed.

    We also have to consider we don't know yet what armor slot it will go in as far as I know unless someone can prove me wrong on that.

    I mean that's funny and all, but imagine this:
    You're a bandit in the Canyon of the Lost. you spend your days doing bandit-y things, and then one day some chucklefuck adventurer from Wynn shows up, chucks a smoke bomb at you and your friends, and vanishes. You're doubled over, coughing and mildly pissed that this dude attacked you for no real reason.

    And then you just explode.
    What the fuck just happened? why did you explode? You don't know. You explode again. And again. By the time the smoke bomb dissipates, you've exploded seven times. You get back up, miraculously unharmed. The assassin is nowhere to be seen; you never get an explanation for what happened on that day.

    the item it's on is called "scarlet veil" and looks like this
