Earlier this year (in march or something) I made a thread featuring some ideas for changes that could be made after the server updates to 1.13+ (which will likely never happen)
I decided to put this one into the Wynncraft forum instead of general suggestions because they aren't really suggestions, just things that would be cool. This also gives me an opportunity to give ideas for post 1.17 updates as well.

In the last thread I talked about an ocean overhaul. However, instead of stating new ideas I ended up getting sidetracked and instead talked about what was already in the game. Here are some new ideas:
Addition of Kelp and Seagrass to the ocean floor
Biome changes (more on that later)
    Coral blocks in Seavale reef
Hostile mobs in the ocean so it's less safe as well as fish to hunt for ingredients

In 1.13, many water colours were changed depending on their biome. This could add some nice atmosphere to Wynncraft. For example:
Lots of ocean variations in the main ocean
Biome blending is used to make lime green water in the Llevigar fountain (makes it look like an LE fountain)
If Mojang ever decides to add in Bedrock edition water changes, we could also have grey and purple water at our disposal.

Currently, corruption is represented by netherrack and obsidian. 1.16 has introduced many new blocks that could make corruption look nicer
Basalt around the base of obsidian spikes
Blackstone mixed in with obsidian spikes
Crimson Nylium instead of netherrack in some places

In old Wynncraft, a lot of NPCs and mobs were pigmen. Examples include Wynnex employees and the pre-1.19 Bob. Since Pigmen have now been replaced by Zombified Piglins, the NPCs would need to be humans instead. Nothing needs to change for pigman ravine but I guess they could add Piglins, Hoglins and Zoglins to the ravine as well.

1.15 introduced the Iron Golem cracking system. The cracked iron golem texture could be used in places where the golems are described to be damaged for decoration.

In 1.17 we're getting many cave changes, and a new mob being introduced with them is called The Warden. The warden tracks players by sound rather than sight which could make for some really interesting AI mechanics. We could maybe have mobs that deal tons more damage than others so a sound-emitting spell has to be used to stop them (meteor, bomb arrow, smoke bomb, idk for warrior lol, uproot). Of course these mobs would be rare and only appear after you have unlocked every spell in its basic form.

Dripleaf: Could be used for some parkour stuff in UR or LS, also can be used for decoration in that one cave near Caissop that uses lilypads to emulate dripleaf plants as well as just decoration in general around the map
    Azalea leaves: Nice tree decoration
    Spore blossom: Decoration in caves
Moss blanket: as Mumbo Jumbo says, this can be used as grass carpets so you no longer need to use green carpets to hide glowstone
Sculk items: Could be used in the Silent Expanse as a plant. There could also be mobs that use the Warden skin in that area.
    Stalagmites and stalagtites: Cave decorations
Cave candles: Huge potential for decoration in Wynn, I expect to see them more frequently than torches
Marble: Block seen near Geodes, great for making temples and stuff in Wynn.
Amethyst Geode: Could be used to decorate the purple parts of corrupted spikes in the Silent Expanse

Archaeology is coming to minecraft, and the blocks used are dirt and gravel. I know mojang has said that they cannot be used as dirt slabs, but they failed to acknowledge the existence of the Debug stick. All you would have to do in theory is take a debug stick and set the value of the block to a slab size. This could be used to make nicer gravel and dirt terrain.

I have a few things to say about copper.
1: Some changes are going to have to be made to the current copper used in the Mining profession. The copper ore block could be added to the armor stand model for copper and copper ingots will actually exist now.
2: Some cool statues could be made with copper blocks

That's about it for my ideas. I will probably come back and add more later.

I like a lot of these ideas, and if it ever were to update past 1.8, I'd love to see some of these in the game, especially the ocean improvements and the sound detection. I think that the ability to have mobs with more ways to fight them and different strengths and weaknesses would be really helpful. I'm reminded slightly of the Old Hero boss from Demon's Souls, which was entirely blind and would track you based on the sounds you made, unless you used a ring that obscured your movement noises (new major ID?). I think the concept of a really hard hitting enemy that can only tell where you are by the noises you make would work well within Wynncraft.

For those thinking that this might happen though, remember, the server still runs on 1.8, and every update since than has reworked a lot of redstone and commands, and pretty much everything would need to be reworked for it to update, due to this. In addition, most of the versions since then (especially 1.13+) are extremely buggy with multiplayer; just hosting a small server with my friends I've found tons of problems getting stuff to work, and a massive, heavily modified server like Wynncraft would almost certainly face countlessly more issues.

Cool technical, yet experimental feature that was added in 1.16.2 was Custom Biomes. It is exactly as it sounds. The main benefits to this is that you can change the color of the grass, skybox, fog, leaves and foliage, etc.
I haven't been able to properly incorporate it into a plugin because as I said, it's experimental and does not work, but when this gets patched better into Spigot this could become another idea for Wynncraft if they ever update.

I actually don't think that updating the plugin would be too difficult for it to be not worth it to do, there's a lot of new stuff that the builders and CMDs would love.

And remember, most of wynncraft's content is either in YAML files that don't need to be changed, or command blocks, which can either be replaced by the 1.13 ones or just updated. It would be a lot more work compared to plugin updates, but the CMD team is much larger than the dev team.

Also they could make actually proper loot tables instead of having to rely on a giant array of chests

And this is only talking about vanilla things! Being able to use updated versions of FAWE (which are surprisingly stable) would allow the build team to do amazing things. It even has what amounts to world painter ingame.

Don't forget custom dimensions. You can now add new worlds. And it's not terribly unstable, since wynncraft doesn't care about world generation.

As a side question novalescent, what version is the Systematic Recreation on? And how many java classes does it have?

It would be a massive undertaking. Not only would it be a lot of dev work, we would have to test and (if needed) fix every piece of content in the game. This ain't a minigame server with 15 minigames, it's a MMORPG spanning a 30k by 30k map with hundreds of quest/discoveries/scripts/cmbs/systems spread out randomly. And trying to motivate a team made up mostly of volunteers to do a boring test and maintaining job would be even harder.

The cost atm isn't worth the benefits. That might change one day but not right now

Yeah, that propably wouldn't be good. Perhaps one day there could be like HERO beta but for new version?

What if the servers run at multiple cpu cores (Or whatever it does not run now) and the performace drastically improved, would it pay out then?

Hard to say because our current systems and versions we run has been optimized a ton over the years. We might lose some of that by updating, but a wynn dev would know more than me at this point

Netherite armor for some crazy high level mythics would be cool too.

I think that they should make all level 100+ armor be netherite
I don't think Salted develops the game, he just owns it and comes up with ideas.

Basic HTML is for sure all you need to take over as web dev :)

I would say that what Salted said is accurate, however. After performing multiple cost-benefit analyses, it's clear that porting to a higher version at this point in time would require not just a lot of dev resource, but testing resource too. Tbh a hero beta let alone a public one probably would not get all the testing needed to get done. We would need to drastically scale our QA team and our content teams which in it of itself is a timely and costly thing.

I think something that is often forgotten is how customized Wynncraft is--it isn't just putting the new spigot jar on and we can call it a day. It'll require fine tuning, ensuring every minor custom modification gets looked at, etc. Not to mention, minecraft has changed drastically since 1.8 mechanic wise, so that is something else to take into account.

Debug stick wouldn’t work for dirt slabs, it’s an animation, not a block state.
