Media The Mysterious Swirl Teaser ( Theory & Discussion )

In the latest August update thread, multiple very cool teasers had been posted- loads of amazing builds of course, but one of them stands out. It's a specifically this one, right at the end:

It's simply called "secret.png", which means it's definitely a secret about something either being changed or added in the update. So far so good, there was a bit of discussion about it, but no real leads. Then, a bit under an hour ago, the official Wynncraft Twitter account tweeted out this:

Which is just the same image, except a little bigger. No special name this time (due to Twitter's image saving system?), but it's clear this is bigger than we initially thought. For the record, I spent a while with trying to find any secret messages through brightening and whatever, so it doesn't look to be anything related to that.

Now, for a few theories on it. The first thing people were suggesting was a stylized "G"- obviously for gavel, seeing as this update seems to contain Gavel reworks. It's definitely possible, although it'd be a bit of a lame teaser in my opinion.


Next, there would be some connection between an earlier image sent in the update thread:

Which definitely also has the swirl pattern, but we don't really know what's up with these either. There's no info on these (they don't seem to be in the void or whatever), and aside from maybe the furthest swirl they don't seem to actually be what the 2d swirl is a map of.

Next, what I originally associated it with- it appeared some decorative swirl, likely on some new logo- picture as an example:

Again, it's totally plausible, but it doesn't really mean anything as a teaser- you'd think a teaser with this much attention put in it, would actually mean something significant in the update, not part of the logo.

Lastly, checking the map is always a good idea, considering a map of some build is actually worth teasing. Although it might be a new area in the void, there's nothing about that on the current map of course- ad it's not any river like I thought previously, but one thing on the map did stand out:

This is right next to where you enter the Realm of Light, and the structure and swirl match up almost scarily well. Still, I don't think this quite it, so I want to ask others to start theorizing about it.

What does it stand for? Where would it come from, related to Wynn? What could that mean for the update? Post your theories!

 

While I can't exactly speculate on what this could mean, I kinda get the feeling that because Salted flat-out reposted the image on twitter, he really wants us to talk about this.

 

I don't know salteds Intentions, Maybe this means will get a world of light rework.

Time to get theorizing

Firstly, I don't think it's this. With every update logo, the letters were filled in, blocky and had serifs, to a degree. Unless they're deciding to chang Wynncraft's art style to that of a bad Newgrounds game, I don't think it's this.

These swirls seem to lack the... swipe? dash? thing the 2D swirl has. Could be it, though.

I looked at the map for a while as well, and didn't really find anything that closely resembled the swirl.
I did find some other things, however.

In the update thread I jokingly joked that the swirl was something from Naruto's Kakashi bandana thing. But the swirl got me thinking of other Naruto element drawings (I've never seen the show). I went googling a bit, and found this:

Hmmm.
The image of a dark swirl seems to represent the element of darkness and the void. It's already very visible in Wynncraft itself: the Hive has swirls, the Silent Expanse has swirls, everywhere there's evil or void magic, there's swirls. The thing is, we already know the Void is getting revamped, so this wouldn't be new information.

As stated in another thread, my theories are:

2 of them are mentioned here (gavel logo and black swirls)

and that it's literally a CT signature (notice how it could be viewed as a c or a t)

CT signature can't be right because it's secret.png.

I highly doubt they'd take some random RoL structure and use it as a teaser. I hope it is though because it hints that the realm of light will get an update.

I highly doubt it would be hinting towards a new element or something similar- either way, it could be seen as darkness (SE/Void), water (CGG/Ocean), air (Bantisu Temple/Sky Islands), or some vine or plant, even. Like I said, it totally could be a symbol for something, but it's really not clear enough to make out what it stands for. My most reasonable guess so far would be CGG, as after a lot of looking at the symbol, I saw this:

(inverted because that might be the solution (it isn't)), with the direction of the lines being made. It looks like it's actually the top "wave" that was written first, instead of it being a swirl with a few extras. It could still mean a ton, but my current best guess is wave + stream + island(?) = CGG confirmation.

On another note, it doesn't seem to be related to any existing symbols or runes- I've spent a couple hours googling any type I could fins, and nothing similar to this showed up, so it's very likely something Wynn-exclusive. Rotating it was one of my first attempts, but aside from a funny cow face you can make with two of them, I haven't noticed anything that would make the answer more obvious.

There is another theme I'd like to look into though, which is that it looks like a plant or flower of some sorts. The bean-shaped thing in the middle could be a seed, and the rest the (beginning) of a stem, in a stylistic way that plants often get portrayed. It doesn't really connect to anything Wynn-related once again though, as we've already had a Jungle revamp. It might (with a very big might) also be connected to the Grootslang, as you could argue for interpreting this as a snake-like creature with a hatched egg in the middle. I've done some looking around on Wynn for any similar shapes, and while the Realm of Light hasn't shown anything in all the swirls I've looked at (nor in the area on the map I previously noted), I do have a few other places I'd like to check out as well. I'll keep the thread updated.

 

Bumping the thread, I haven't really gotten much progress in solving this. The only thing that could be possible is that, when you tilt it, it kinda seems like part of a snail, which could maybe hint to A Recipe for Disaster being updated, or just a Snail Island build update.


I also investigated the shape of both the dead Grootslang (not even close) and what I think is pretty accurate for the Taproot (I made this from a few screenshots, help), but neither look very similar to secret.png.


However, it's possible we've gotten a small hint to what the solution is, although it's probably something upcoming but entirely unrelated. Still, there are mushrooms in the realm of light..

I went to check out obscure areas, and I found that the swirls in this specific Shattered Minds room are pretty similar in shape, although none are actually accurate to the thing itself:


I really doubt these have anything do to with our swirl, but that aside it's totally possible Shattered Minds might also get an update if they're working on many different Gavel things. I'm sure saltedpog fits somewhere.

Now for the actual teaser-related speculation, I'll quote this post from @Mac N Cheese Man :

Which I thin k has a very high likelihood of being true. I really think Wind Fortress is going to be added after the Fallen protectors teaser, and this being a sign/symbol of that makes sense. If we're still going with the wind theme, there's also a very small possibility it could be a "G" with wind.. Gale's (and Ohms') storyline has been up to be added since forever. Who knows. Anyway, also a bump for speculation on this teaser.

I'd like to start with a little bit of background:
In the Fallen Protectors trailer, it seemed a giant statue had fallen apart and ended up somehow in the void. This giant statue seemed very similar to the Colossus located in the Valley of the Lost, which is said to have been "protecting something" (I may not be exact on this quote I haven't looked at the in-text lore for awhile).
Unrelated, the Sky Islands were said to have shattered around the same time that the corruption began in the Realm of Light. This insinuates that something happened with the Void during this time. Secret.png was flashed at the intro of the Fallen Protectors trailer, so I believe that the void and Sky Islands are related to secret.png

I would disagree here. There was a very clear plant/bean related reference in Wynncraft. The quest "The Fortuneteller" where we got most of the lore about the Sky Islands had us grow a literal gigantic beanstalk which lead us to the protector of the Sky Islands.

I can't make any solid discoveries with that, but here's where I'm going with this:

There used to be two giant Colossi, one in the Valley of the Lost, and one in Sky Islands (or something similar). The Colossus in the Valley of the Lost is deactivated, as it hasn't moved in centuries, while the one at the bottom of the Void was destroyed while fighting something, or during the shattering of the Sky Islands. At the same time the Sky Islands shattered, the Realm of Light was invaded by The Realm of Darkness and began to become corrupt. As revealed in the Wynnexcavation questline, the Realms of Light and Dark weren't supposed to be able to come into contact with each other. Meaning: something happened to the void to allow the two to touch.

I think that secret.png is a reference to the void, Dern, the Realm of Light, the bean stalk, AND Gavel ALL at the same time. As discussed in previous posts, its spiral pattern fits as the 'G' in the word "Gavel", bears striking resemblance to many of the structures found in the Realm of Light, and is similar to many of the spiral patterns found in the void and in more "evil" places.

This matches with the upcoming Void update and Gavel rework, and insinuates that perhaps we'll FINALLY get the Realm of Light boss fight we've been waiting for for 5 years.

There's probably more to it than this, though, and I might also be completely wrong.

I showed one of my friends who hasn't played Wynncraft this symbol, and they said it looked like an eye.

imo I think this is one of the more likely possibilities

 

I think we now know it's another symbol from the new runic alphabet teased on Twitter. The question now is: Which letter is it? (G for Gavel maybe? W for Wynncraft?)

 

I mean, are we even sure that the new teased symbols are part of an alphabet?
