I am brand new to the game, I have like 20 skill points unused, because I do not know what to add them to. Any builds that are for beginners?

Personally I suggest starting off as mage, warrior is wildly considered the worst class D: (one of my favorites though, so still not a bad choice by any means)
But for builds, I recommend getting any items with a high xp bonus. You'll be leveling so often builds will become irrelevant until around the lvl 60 mark. Investing your stat points between strength and defense will give you a pretty good build. If possible, get your intel to 23 or 20. Both are pretty good numbers for low levels.

So what stats would I dump things into as a mage?

It's not that Warrior is bad, it's that Mage is more than broken

    Listen. Listen to me.

You don't have to believe what they tell you. Warrior is a good class. Warrior is fun.
You may be able to kill stuff good with Mage. You may be able to not die with Mage (due to heals). Mage may be more ranged than Warrior.
But who would rather be a lame spellcaster over a cool as heck melee user?

With warrior, you don't have any hp sustain, unlike mage and shaman. This is bad if you use Cosmic. That was one thing that I didn't enjoy.
But you don't need to know about that yet. You're innocent and young. And I believe in you. You will be the future of the Warrior class.

Use warrior. Put your skill points into Intelligence until you get to a certain threshold (just pick one of the numbers and keep going until you are satisfied with your spell costs, I would recommend 68 because it evenly chops in half all your spell costs). Put them into Strength if you want. It doesn't really matter.

Just go. Thrive. Experience Wynncraft from the perspective of the best class, which is Warrior.

    No I'm not insane.

Okay, first off, ignore the "don't make a build until level 50/60/70/80/90/endgame" crowd. Put your points into whatever fits your playstyle; if you like damage, put them in strength or dex, if you like spells, put them in intel. If you like being tanky, put them in defense or agility. Obviously, there's some more nuance to it than that, but it's a good start.

If you like speed and spells, dexterity is probably better than strength, which typically favors slower, melee focused combat (this is not always the case, this is just what is just what is typically best supported). If you prefer having a lot of health and regeneration, and just generally being able to tank a lot of hits and bounce back, defense works well, but typically is for slower builds. Agility favors speed and, well, agility.

You can mix and match these as much as you'd like; builds often are associated with 3 elements, but you can do one that focuses entirely on two, or on all five evenly.

It all depends on your playstyle.
    Earth/Thunder: Glass cannon
Earth/Fire: Tank that can actually do damage
    Fire/Air: Omega tank
    Earth/Water: Spellspam Bash
Earth/LIghtning/Water: Alternate between Bash and Uppercut
