Aug. 2020 - News From The Content Team

​

Hello everyone! It's been about a month since the last Content Team update, so I'm here to show you the next one. We've talked a bit about what 1.20 is going to look like in the last thread, and we're still not quite ready to reveal the overall theme, but we do have some more cool stuff we want to show you!

As a quick reminder, we still don't have a set release date for the update and it's still quite a while away, but I promise you the whole team's working incredibly hard to get it out as soon as possible.

Now, let's get into some of the juicy new content!

Reworks

Here's a little town we redid early on in the update, it looks pretty much unrecognisable from what it was before. Can you guess where it is?

Aside from builds, we've also reworked a little thing that might have caused some of you a bit of trouble before...

Forgery

​

Here's something pretty big that our main man @Pepo has been working super hard on, I think y'all might get pretty excited about this, but I'll let Salted talk about it.

Salted: Hey look I'm here too! I want to write a little bit about this forgery change and what our goals are with this.

If you can't tell from the previous screenshot, the Forgery Chest is a reward you can get for running different corrupted dungeons at the Forgery without dying or leaving. It gives XP (its main reward), emeralds, runes, tokens (to use in dungeon shops) and... mythics.

One very popular way to level up from around Lv. 70 and higher is doing corrupted dungeon parties. They can be pretty fun, but they have some issues we're not too happy with:
1: Players make HUGE parties and roll through the dungeon easily without any challenge
2: Because of that, most players in these parties just do nothing and wait for others to do the work (known as wall huggers)
3: To make sure their time is well spent, these parties only run the highest level corrupted dungeon they can, resulting in a big lack of diversity
4: As it requires a lot of players, people avoid using keys and just purchase bombs. It's good for Wynn's revenues I guess, but we'd prefer if people also ran these parties using keys.
5: The rewards aren't too exciting and are often expected (XP and some dungeon rewards, but since players run these dungeons multiple times in a row, they get so many tokens that the excitement is quickly lost)

Here are our solutions:
1: Corrupted dungeons now have scaling mobs (only for some mobs, not all) and bosses. If you run through the lower level dungeons at level 100, it will be a bit harder than before
2: We added this Forgery Chest which rewards you greatly for running dungeons. The catch is that you must be active and kill mobs for it to count. This rewards smaller active groups more than big ineffective ones.
3: The Forgery Chest also rewards you for running different dungeons instead of only one, adding diversity (yea sorry you'll have to run lost sanctuary a few times until we eventually rework it)
4: We made keys allow up to 4 players to enter with only one use. This will allow players to run small dungeon runs without feeling forced to pay for bombs
5: We made the Forgery Chest give other types of rewards than just XP... including Mythics. Not to worry, this is a VERY inefficient way to get a Mythic. But we will definitely run this through a HERO beta to make sure it's not too OP. Loot running should still be more effective.

Alright, that's it from me! Keep in mind everything I said could change before it comes out. We're hoping to release this before 1.20 with the planned store update, but there's a very real chance that it will have to wait for 1.20. We'll see!

Will this also apply to normal dungeons? It's a lot less needed for them obviously, but I'm just curious.

The new town seems to me like it's Bucie, as it looks like a very small town and Bucie has been in need of a rework since forever. It's not particularly close to a river, but it's definitely possible.

Forgery update sounds really good, finally can run a dungeon with friends without having trouble getting on a dungeon party world
The chest sounds really interesting and I will run dungeons hundreds of times until I get a mythic

 

Surprised people aren't talking about the town remake. It was one of the first things shown to me when I joined the CT, it looks really cool imo

While that bridge looks sick, I'm honestly not sure how to feel about a potential elkurn rework
Pretty cool but I hope Elkurn doesn't look too developed, I like the small village feeling it has (assuming it is Elkurn but there is no other town next to a river, Bucie is too far and so is Maltic)
