“They’re all exhibition and recreation matches. There’s a title ladder and everything, trophies and plaques for certain milestones and all. I’m not gonna go super far - I’m human, there’s only so much I can do to compare to a centaur or any other being like that - but it’s really not that bad.” The guard explains. “Though, all due respect, limiters are a fairly popular means of advanced training here. I assume you’ve seen all the jewelry and stuff The Silver King and The Golden Queen wear? All of them are limiters. They’re both way, way stronger than they let on.”

 

"I wonder if Lady Gaia's clothing functions the same..." The forest guardian says to themselves, contemplating, "I don't know how well I'd do without my powers, though I'm not here for personal entertainment."

 

“Not something you have to worry about, unless you decide to take part in the arena during your spare time.” The guard shrugs. “I’m guessing it sounds more like something up the demons’ alley, though.”

 

"From what I've heard, they have a similar arena in hell, where they test their strength and brutally harm each other for the sake of it," The forest guardian says, sounding disgusted, "I heard even the king of shadows wasn't able to resist it's influence."

 

"The effects of the fight are rewound, so nobody winds up being hurt. I wouldn't take part if everyone got sent to an overcrowded medical wing afterwards..."

 

"I'm...not entirely sure what it's like to die in hell. I fear the thought of being sent there for disrespecting Lady Gaia. However, in her gardens, if we die we're simply reborn. Our spirits find one of the many areas she has created for us to come back to life, and we're even allowed to change our body's age," The forest guardian explains, "Recreational fights happen, but we're not as brutal as hell, or competitive as here."

 

"The anchor point that you will be activating tomorrow works in a similar way in an emergency. If you should find yourself at the perfectly wrong spot of a workplace accident, your soul will come back here instead of moving across an entire other reality and risking getting caught by the Hive Master. You shouldn't have to worry about being killed, but we try to cover as many risks as we can."

 

"I'm...not sure if I could find my way back to Lady Gaia this far from her, but that's certainly reassuring." The forest guardian says, smiling.

 

"It's a contingency plan, sure, but we'd rather prepare for such emergencies for the sake of not being blindsided. Everyone's been working overtime preparing for you lot, I don't mean to say that it's not safe here. It's been calmer than it has been in a while, at that; but if we're not prepared for the worst, how can we be certain of the best?"

"Well, hopefully we won't disappoint!" The forest guardian says cheerily.

 

"Likewise!" The guard chuckles, continuing on to the other nearby guardians and demons.

 

The other guardians and demons aren't as conversational; a succubus and incubus seeming too distracted by each other to even focus on the guard for long.

After a short while, the demons already interviewed begin to head back to their rooms, and the guardians begin to start up card games again.

 

The guards take one more quick round to distribute extra room keys before sorting their papers and leaving again, a different set coming back in a few hours to get everyone who was busy or inside on-file as they start knocking on each door that hasn't been recorded as used.

 

A few demons seem to question why exactly they need to be recorded on file, though co-operate nonetheless. A few guardians fill in for their roommates - the roommates themselves being asleep.

 

The answer boils down to "that's just what protocol is," but none bother trying to hold ground on the subject.

Once again, extra keys are distributed where required, and the guards leave again.


Nobody else goes out into the common area, though after a few hours the sun starts to set.

 

A few guardians decide to try and find a way outside to watch the sunset, while a few groups of demons begin trying to explore the mirage palace.

 

There’s a large garden outside of the courtyard, but it’s contrasted by a bottomless abyss as far as the eye can see.

The demons find the spire easily enough, but none of them actually manage to find the Mirage Palace in the first place.

 

An earth guardian pulls up a rock, throwing it into the abyss to see what happens.

The demons keep hunting, a half-spider demon checking the map.

 

The abyss is completely silent in return.

The map says they should be able to access the Mirage Palace from the spires, but they can't seem to find the supposed stairwell.
