For now, I'd say he has bits and pieces of where he was from such as the idea that he came frmo a society that could play chess perfectly. He has mostly suspicions that he has to go north but not any solid memories yet.

As Mikos gathers more of his thoughts, the father says, "Let's speed this up."











"More loose material," Aliruja says.

"Oh whoops," Fireza does a little facepalm with a smile.


The kid thinks for a little bit so Aliruja decides to tell Mikos what he needs to know.

"My family ancestry runs back to old Fortune Tellers. Me and my son still possess a little bit of it but we only tell the future when the world decides we need to. This chess game was meant to be a normal match but now it's predicting your future. I'm not sure which side represents you."

Midas's forces begin to retreat from Notingburg.

Midas picks up the eye amulet and...

Midas feels a sudden surge of power and a resurgence of his life force. Midas is shown the history of this planet. He sees when it was just another molten rock, he sees when the asteroid came down and killed the dinosaurs... Midas feels as if all the knowledge in the world is at his fingertips. But... when Midas tries to ask the amulet for information he wants, the amulet relents and denies Midas information. The amulet has a mind of its own. But it also shares thoughts with Midas. The amulet is thinking of a futuristic city in the north, past the northern border of Panami Nation and far into the future. Midas then asks the totem if it can get rid of the missiles in the air. Midas's/amulet's thoughts shift to the last two incoming missiles and they simply explode, one minute away from hitting Notingburg.

Midas's forces then retreat back to base. By the time Midas returns to base, the eye amulet seems to be completely shutting Midas out.

What now?

 

Oh, was not expecting that the chess game would be relevant. Time for me to review the chess game later.

"I...um... I'm not sure what to say about that."

Mikos will compose himself before stating the following.

"From what I've pieced together so far though, I highly suspect that I must go north to regain my memories. But that is where you said that many a traveler has... disappeared, yes?"

 

mm yeah I do a lot of cryptic things. Slight indications of the chess game mattering were the “8-bit” chess piece set (it’s the closest to a futuristic piece set) and the aurora borealis background (not sure if items noticeable)

I am on mobile right now so no chess moves and short responses

“Yes, all travelers who go past Panami’s north border disappear. No one has come back... I don’t know if you should go, honestly...” Aliruja says. “I’ve told the future of people’s disappearances before.” Notably, the word “death” is avoided.

 

Same, lol.

"Hmm... I suspect it might be to the whole 'time-barrier' issue you mentioned. If they are to fall tomorrow, perhaps the path will be clear... or at least, more clear than it was previously."

Mikos will sit down and pore over his notes of the game.

"At the very least, I'll have to wait for tomorrow to start conducting tests to confirm my hypothesis. Even longer before I dare go myself. But for now, I must spend my time on other matters. Maybe I'll try to connect your prophetic game of chess to my fate, future or otherwise."

 

“Well the thing about the time barriers is that when the time barriers are up, anyone who touches the barriers disintegrates and turns to dust. The time barriers don’t actually affect time anymore but they did when they initially appeared. When the time barriers appeared, specific parts of the world reverted backwards which is why the map is divided into these ‘time zones’. Right now, the time barriers simply hinder most of the progress made to modernizing the rest of the world. People can only travel past Panami’s northern border when the barriers are down and when they do, they don’t come back.”

The kid seems to still be confused on how to proceed with the game. Perhaps this move of the game is an important crossroad in Mikos’s future.

 

"Right let's say that by some miracle everyone cared about this. What then? What do you think the government will do?"

 

Nico tears off a piece of his own shirt to bandage the wound, then pulls the arrow out and bandages Will's wound. Will grimaces in pain

 

"They would wipe out The House and Stacked Deck!" This man seems to only understand direct causation and has strong faith in the government. He is a bit too innocent.

The kid finally says something. "The government wouldn't do anything," he yells miserably. You begin to ponder a little bit. Perhaps if the Creak government focused all its forces to erradicating the major gangs, The House and Stacked Deck would disappear. But the country is focused on going to war with the Prime Alliance and controlling "The Break." The country would have to expend too many resources to try and even identify the people affiliated with the gangs, not to mention it would have to reverse its movement of armies from "The Break" back to the islands (Creak's army is mostly on "The Break" preparing to go to war). It looks a little hopeless.

Maybe you can escape the debt by running away.

What now?

Well, Nico is someone successful in clogging the bleeding. Will cannot walk for the moment and it's still advised to go find a hospital. Getting a map of the city would be useful too, despite the language barrier. Nico and Will notice that more people are charging into the brawl at the center of the square. It seems that everyone is out for each other's blood in this chaotic, old city. Despite about 1/3 - 1/2 of the combatants dead or injured, the brawl is escalating and the storm overhead is getting worse.

Screw the hospital, Nico and Will need to find the nearest shelter.

What now?

 

Nico will carry and/or assist Will in leaving the alleyway, and head away from the brawl, searching for at least some sort of inn or hospital, preferably with a name written in English

 

Soldiers wake Midas up by saying

"We won"

Midas starts leading a taskforce to rebuild the city

 

"You're way to naive Hikof, the kids right they wouldn't do anything because they have a war to fight. Now do you need anything else or can I go back to work?"

 

There is not a single sign or word written in English but Nico and Will find a little apartment building. The person working behind the front desk of the apartment screams in shock as she sees Nico carry Will into the building. The employee then regains her composure and comes to help Nico and Will. Will is set onto one of the couches in the lobby and the woman begins asking Nico a flurry of questions in a language neither Nico or Will understand. Goddamn the language barrier.

Nico says "I only speak English," several times but the lady doesn't seem to understand what Nico is saying. It seems that English simply doesn't exist in this place.

"What happened?" Oh, apparently someone speaks English here. Nico's and Will's eyes look at the source and the person who spoke English is a 16-year-old looking kid. He's about 5 ft 7 in (1.7 meters), black ruffled hair, and blue eyes. The woman stops asking questions in the unknown language.

The teenager tilts his head. "Arrow wound in the outer thigh." How did he know it was an arrow? The piece of t-shirt Nico used to cover the wound is getting more and more red by the minute and some blood is starting to leak again. The woman steps back behind her desk and the teenager steps froward towards Will.

A white circle appears around Will. It's a spell. The blood stops and the t-shirt returns to its original black color. So it was a healing spell.

"You guys are the first people I've met that speak English in this city," the teenager says. "My name is Jay." Nico and Will aren't sure if that's his real name or some alias he goes by but whatever.

What now?

Hikof sighs. "I don't need anything else. I'll go." He takes the kid with him. As soon as they leave, the telephone rings. You answer it.

"Hello? Dr. Fiddlehead here."

"Sir," it's the lady at the front desk. "... a patient just came in with a lung virus. It's not a normal virus. It was injected." What the hell. "Come to the main ward on the first floor." The phone hangs up without waiting for a response from you. Rude but...

What now?

The damage done to Notingburg was pretty big. The two tallest skyscrapers have fallen down and there's a lot of other buildings that have been destroyed. There's a lot of civilians crying on the streets and any public TVs left are depicting news of the fallen capital as well as several debates between Panami's leaders. The eye amulet begins calling Midas names in his mind: murderer, psychopath, evil. Midas ignores the name calling from the amulet that used to be possession of the unordinary fire magicae. Midas/amulet's thoughts then shift to beyond the northern border of Panami Nation again and the amulet desperately wants to go there. Midas knows that every person who has traveled beyond Panami's north border end up dead, perhaps the amulet is trying to kill him. But the amulet thought of a futuristic city in the north...

Midas snaps out of the amulet's thoughts. He gets word that Panami is recouping its forces and a massive Panami army is gathering at Ganara. The land north of Notingburg is still Detinu territory and not Midas territory so Midas suspects that Panami and Detinu forces will join together and attack Notingburg.

The amulet begins relenting against Midas again except this time, the amulet is trying to shut Midas out of his own mind and take control of his body.

What now?

 

"I'm Will," Will says, amazed that Jay healed his arrow wound. "and this is my sunshine, Nico. How were you able to do that? I've never seen magic like that before." Will tests his leg to assure himself that he isn't hallucinating

 

I sigh "I did say i was going back to work, but i hoped it wouldn't be this soon" I'll walk over to the front desk

 

Will's leg still hurts but the bleeding has stopped. He probably shouldn't walk for a bit.

"I'm... not from this world," Jay says. "Magic is actually extremely uncommon from the world I came from. I got a special healing branch of magic. I don't think you two are from this world either since you speak English, right?"

You walk to the front desk and then realize you were supposed to go to the ward. You then head to the ward. You enter the ward and find that the nearest bunk has the patient injected with the lung virus. 44 year old man, no lung problems before. The virus is attacking the inner layer of both lungs according to the scans. Weird as hell.

What now?

 

A soldier takes the amulet of midas and begins orders to thwart The incoming army. He is sending The flare Missiles and then the flying juggernauts. Midas Creates another public Broadcast.

"Normally I would say peace is not an option but today it is. If you don't call of the attack, I will spend my soldiers lives to take you down, that is a Sacrifice I am willing to make"

The broadcast ends there

 

"We come from a place called "Camp Half-Blood"," Nico says. "We're demigods, half-god and half-mortal, so we have some of the powers of our godly parents. A black portal appeared in the camp, pulling in many of the campers, including us, and we were transported here. We tried to look for the other fcampers, but we were repeatedly attacked by some rather strong magic users, who were even able to scratch my blade." Nico raises his sword, showing the cuts on the Stygian blade.

 

"Well then sir I'll ask you a question. Is there anything, that you know of, that could have caused this?"

 

The soldier is unsuccessful from taking the amulet from Midas. While neither the amulet, or Midas want to be together, the amulet says in Midas's thoughts: "The amulet can only be with the person who is most responsible for killing the last possessor of the amulet. I'm stuck with you, psychopath." The amulet is no longer trying to take control over Midas though.

Midas gets word that Panami ignored the broadcast and the army has entered Detinu territory meeting up with a small Detinu force. Their mobilization is fast. The army should get to Notingburg in 1-2 hours.

So war it is.

What now?

"Mm that's not the most absurd story I've heard, believe it or not," Jay says. "I came from a city called New York in my world..." Nico and Will glance at each other. "Magic is supposed to be concealed from the public eye but... mm yeah a ton of black portals appeared but they only pulled in magicae, or magic users. They were targetting a specific... person. They were targetting the wielder of the Eye and Time Totems, two of the most powerful objects from my world. Whoever was trying to capture the wielder of those totems didn't know exactly where or who the wielder was so there was a massive 'black portal' attack on New York... and I got pulled in and ended up here."

This guy is from Nico's and Will's world... but he has a whole different magic system as well. It reminds Nico of the differences between the Greek and Roman camps and how those magic systems still exist because people still believe in them.

What now?

"I was jumped and pinned down by three thugs. One of the thugs had a syringe and injected the virus in me as crazy as it sounds." You ponder for a bit. Someone is testing new viruses on people. Maybe someone wants to wipe out the Creak population. Is the virus contagious? No, doesn't look like it. But since someone is engineering this virus, they can make it contagious if they want. Who would want to wipe out the Creak population or at least impair most of the population?

You still have to treat the man.

What now?

 

Send in the Flare missiles and the Flying Juggernauts, and the anti Magic trophy system, and the tanks.

We must stall them by 48 hours in order to win this war. (Midas plans to setnup a trade deal with pre modern powers)
