Shakespeare’s works should not be taught in schools, ESPECIALLY his plays, change my mind.

 

I agree wholeheartedly, Shakespeare is boring to be honest

 

As long as literature in general is taught in school, I think it makes sense to include Shakespeare. Unless you're trying to say Shakespeare did something wrong specifically?

 

Well, for one, Shakespeare gets way too much credit than he deserves. He didn’t come up with the basic stories of all his plays.

Second, plays are meant to be acted out, not analyzed. There’s a reason why Harry Potter and the Cursed Child turned out the way it did, because plays are designed and written with the intent of being on stage.

Third, old English/early modern English. You could make an argument that something school teaches you in every subject could help you in the “real world”, whether it be finding the vertex of the trajectory of a water fountain, grammar and writing skills, mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell, your rights as a citizen in a first world country...But you’ll never convince me that anyone will ever need to know early modern English to succeed in life. Yeah, I guess you could become an English major...But doing that is generally discouraged, since the only job you’ll find is becoming an English teacher, just to subject more kids to the torture known as Shakespeare.
