Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

"Considering I don't have a choice, go ahead." Mary says, cautious.

 

The two liter flask provided by Amber appears in Artemis' hands, though she cautiously uses vines to try and collect the ruin with it; to avoid harming herself.

 

Mary rolls her eyes as the vines wither instantly, almost forcing out Artemis' death guardian form as a result.
"Here, just..." She mumbles, a mud-like clump of ruin being hefted and drained into the flask.
A quick swipe of a claw wipes away a drop that began to run down the side of the flask.

 

"Thanks." Artemis says appreciatively, her necklace glowing brightly.

 

Mary nods, still seeming untrusting of Artemis.
"If you want to remain a hybrid, I'd keep the lid on that closed tight."

 

Artemis nods, taking the flask back. As she does so, dark claws seem to form around her hands like gloves; carefully grasping the flask before it seems to disappear entirely.

"You seem tense." Artemis comments.

 

"There's nothing we can do to stop the plague currently within you." She says flatly. "That, and it sounds like you lied to the chief. Again, I think you wouldn't lay a finger on Aquira. For Katie's sake, if nothing else. Rather, I'm more inclined to believe you'd lure her back here. She's done enough to these people, and me."

 

"Why would I do something like that? These people are my own, they're good people," Artemis says, hurt, "Amber wanted to speak with Aquira. That's all."

Artemis seems to have been quite offended by the comment, looking slightly tearful.

 

"The only guardians I know of are Katie, this tribe, and pirates. Pardon me for distrusting outsiders when every time another comes, somebody here gets hurt or dies. Besides, chief said something about you wishing to get revenge on the pirates that keep raiding us on my behalf - Aquira's one of the frequenters. Between those two things, and the shadow inside of you, the only difference I know of going into this is that there's something we can do against the pirates whereas we may as well lay down and die if your mind changes on impulse."
Mary sighs, still tense.
"If you don't lay a finger on anyone, as far as I've known that would be a first for someone outside the tribe."

 

Artemis doesn't say a word, simply storming out past Mary with a stern look on her face; trying to hold back her tears.

One of the chief's guards just gives Mary an uncomfortable look, feeling out of place in the argument.

 

"I know it's not my place, but if anyone gets in their way, we're all dead. The shadow possessing her is a force greater than any pirate. Is there anything that can be done to make sure that doesn't happen?" Mary asks the guard, turning to them.

 

"I...um. I'm not sure. We've not had to deal with Shadows before," The guard says nervously, "Perhaps your...condition, could do something to stop them?"

 

"It wouldn't even slow him down enough to blink." Mary says, shaking her head.

 

"Maybe we could get Artemis to stop him from hurting anyone?" The guard suggests.

 

“She’s doing that already, to the best of her ability.” Mary sighs. “I’ll just go back to my hut. Sorry for speaking out of place, I just... that’s no ordinary shadow she’s with.”

 

The guard nods, though he seems rather unnerved.

 

Mary heads back to her hut as stated, laying down on her bed with an exasperated sigh as she tries to forget what just happened.

 

As Mary heads back, she overhears a conversation between a couple of the tribe members. They seem to be talking about how Artemis ran off into the wilderness in tears, and whether or not she'd be safe with the traps set up for trespassers.

Mary's bed seems soft and welcoming. Her cotton blanket is as soft as ever, and she feels like she could drift off and pretend like everything was just a bad dream.

 

Mary shoots up, running to the tribe members.
"Traps?! If she gets hurt, we're all dead! Which way did she go?!" She demands, not bothering to hold on to her ruin.

 

"That way." One of the tribe members says, pointing to the northern side of the island; into the wilderness.
