Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

Bea shakes her head.

"I'd know if it was." Bea says happily.


"Maybe we should move somewhere...fresher. She's feeding on the dead, right? We'd need fresh corpses." Artemis suggests.

I think for a moment, "I guess we could look into whatever war the humans are having right now. Maybe some of their soldiers died more recently than these guys." I suggest.

Artemis seems disgusted, but nods nonetheless. The grave digger, upon noticing Artemis and I, screams and runs off.

"I guess we should get moving, the humans will be here for us soon." I say, opening a portal back to the realm of shadows for Artemis.

Artemis and I head through, appearing at a military outpost a few minutes later and looking for where they might've buried those that died from their injuries - trying to stay out of sight of the guards on watch.

 

Amethyst hesitantly takes a small bite, untrusting.


As you search, you notice some signs of Amber being present in the past, but you don't sense her nearby right now.

 

The fruit is incredibly sweet, and juice starts to drip out of the bite mark she leaves. There are no signs of poison, though Amethyst feels a strong desire to keep eating it.


"She's been here. We've got an idea where she might be." I whisper, before thinking.

Artemis and I sneak out of the military camp, trying to figure out where they might've gone to fight and searching for fresher corpses.

 

She tries to slurp a bit of the juice out, but doesn’t try to take another bite.


One small thing occurs to you as you begin searching; an undead probably wouldn’t feed at shortly after noon.

 

Amethyst feels a little bit stronger than before, though not by much.


Artemis and I head to a scene of a few deaths, before marking the point and heading back to the realm of shadows; returning in the evening.

 

She opts to eat the rest of the fruit, albeit hesitantly.


Strangely enough, it looks like you may have missed her - two of the corpses are nothing but skulls with peacefully departed souls.

 

Once Amethyst finishes the fruit, she feels a surge of strength run through her, and she senses the world around her a little better; as if she's more connected to it somehow. Bea smiles warmly, staying with Amethyst.


Artemis starts trying to sense for signs of an undead, while I look for any blood trails or tracks in general.

 

You find draconian tracks with a seemingly alive Amber.
"I see I'm not the only plague ailing this platoon anymore." She says, smirking. "What brings you here?"

 

I whistle to Artemis to signal her over, before turning my attention back to Amber.

"You, actually. You're looking very healthy." I say happily, appreciative of Amber's joke. Artemis smiles as she approaches.

"It's good to see you, Amber." Artemis says cheerily.

"We actually were wondering if you'd be able to help us with something. You'd be rewarded if you choose to, of course." I explain.

 

“That’s on Mortius.” Amber says, tapping her necklace as she begins to reek of corpse again. “Busy day, usually I sit underground. What do you need?”

 

"A new monarchy has taken up residence in the void palace, and they're only letting speakers of ancient dacori through. Artemis and I don't know the language, but we heard you could speak it, and were hoping you could be our translator." I explain.

"They've threatened nothing short of a war with our reality, so the lack of communication is a large flaw." Artemis adds.

"I'd be happy to supply you with whatever I can as a reward. The Shadow Palace has a fairly fresh supply of human corpses every week, so I'd be more than willing to throw a buffet on top too." I offer.

 

“All due respect, you do you but I’m not terribly fond of your methods. Sentients deserve respect in death, lest they were raised to be killed. Tell you what - one of my sisters is dripping in ruin, and I haven’t been able to find her even though I know she’s on Earth. Get me a good amount of ruin straight from the source, and you’ve got a translator.” She says, pulling out what looks to be a two liter flask.

 

"Is there anything else you'd want as a reward?" I ask, accepting the flask.

 

“Mmm... the sister in question, Aquamarine, was tossed overboard by a pirate. Think Aquira was their name? No harm intended, but I’d like a word with them if possible. You don’t mess with the family, you know?”

 

"Aquira is our friend Katie's mother, we'll be able to arrange that meeting between you." Artemis says, smiling.

"If she was tossed overboard at sea, she's probably washed up on an island," I ponder, "Does Aquamarine have any sort of travel abilities? Like flight, or the ability to swim really well?"

 

"She can breathe underwater but can't swim. She used to be able to merge with water, but her curse only lets her do that with her ruin. If she's on an island, she walked there or let the currents drift her around in ruin form."

 

"Good to know, we'll go and find your sister and get her ruin." I say, giving a thumbs up.

"Did you want us to deliver a message to her, while we're there?" Artemis offers.

 

"Thank whoever bothered keeping her from offing herself. Explicitly as in do more than just not kill them."

 

"I'll tell them specifically that you're appreciative that they've cared for her." Artemis says, giving me a look.

"What?" I ask, offended.

 

“Okay, addendum. If I find you’ve killed the people who helped Mary, I’m not going to be thrilled.” Amber says flatly, looking straight at you.
