Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

"Well, if you're happy just to stand there." I shrug, heading off with Artemis.

 

Rineth somewhat reaches out to Tenebrae, leaving a connection request open should she decide she has time for him.

 

"Yes, Rineth?" Tenebrae responds.

 

“Have I failed you? Your king spoke as if I have.”

 

"Not at all. You have done no wrong." Tenebrae says reassuringly.

 

“He spoke as if waiting for your commands was blasphemous, thus I feared I had already failed you. Thank you for the comforting words, Lady Tenebrae.” He says, still unmoving.

 

"I have only need of you to protect Ihra when she is in our reality, for she is vital." Tenebrae responds.

 

"You have my word I will not budge until she is present here." Rineth says, sounding a touch relieved.

 

"You are free to roam and explore my realm while she is not present, as long as you are there for her when she is," Tenebrae explains, "I do not keep my children as slaves."

 

"If I show such signs of distraction, please let me know before you replace me so I can correct my error." Rineth says, unmoving.

 

"Replace you? None of my children are replaceable," Tenebrae says, sounding surprised, "I will not rule you like a monarch. I shall guide you."

 

Rineth pauses.
“May I confide something to you, then?”

 

"Certainly, Rineth." Tenebrae says kindly.

 

"About that... that's not my name. I can't remember what it is, but Rineth was the name of the head messenger I... replaced. I didn't know that replacement meant death back then."

 

"Would you prefer it if I called you by a different name, then?" Tenebrae asks kindly.

 

"No, though my preferences should be of no concern to you. If they are, I can correct that." Rineth says.

 

"I care for all of my children. You shouldn't think yourself so minor." Tenebrae responds positively.

 

"The culture here is far different than that of home. There are so many mortals, one either strives to be the best they can be in a role, or they're replaced by someone who does. For the sake of the Rineth I replaced, I want to be remembered in history books - maybe even warrant being in The Archives. Until the day I die, nothing I do may be enough. There is no close enough, there are no second chances - mortality does not forgive, it only forgets. I cannot overcome it without becoming something and someone else, but through memories and records I may outlive it." Rineth utters. "If I knew I was destroying a family in pursuing my skills as a Voidwalker, I would have hidden my work. Now I cannot falter, for his sake."
Pause.
"At least... not again. I let trust blind me once - no second chance is guaranteed, but I have no intent to waste mine."

 

"You will be remembered for your actions in this war - in this reality at least - and by those you have helped," Tenebrae responds, "You do not need to fear replacement or a lack of a second chance here. I am not so cruel."

 

Rineth takes a minute to respond, squirming once very slightly.
“Your words mean a good deal to me, but... at the same time... ah, forgive me. Merely a stray thought.”
He takes a breath.
“I suppose there is a god of time here, after all.”

Tenebrae has no troubles reading the stray thought, though - Rineth seems to find her words insulting, specifically as he sees them calling his motives wrong and Xlentia cruel.
