I slowly make my way to the core while smashing any nearby rocks

 

What do you do if/when you get to the core?

 

Smash it

 

I'll once again dip a crossbow bolt in lava and fire it at the core, but I'll move a lot closer to the core, so that no flying rock intercepts my bolt.

Dig the walls of the place we are in

 

You start digging the walls of the temple. You hit solid rock, as the temple is built into a mountain.

You make your way to the core, smashing any rocks that get near you, dealing 66 damage in total. Once you get to the core, the core’s power makes it difficult to get close enough to hit the core, but you manage to, and you smash the core for 485 damage. This also makes the golem vulnerable again. The core hits the ground, and all the rocks fly back to the core, reforming the golem. Some hit you in the back of the head and you take 25 damage.

The golem is too weak to do anything this turn.

The core isn’t exposed anymore, but you fire it anyway, and deal 59 damage.

You dig for more items. You find dirt.

Better idea, attach both trebuchet and ballista together in a way that the ballista shoots the trebuchet, which then the trebuchet launches the ballista at the golem, so double structure whamming into the golem

We're getting close! (Sadly crossbow didn't really work well against a golem).

I'll shoot a lava-dipped bolt to the spot that Phantom Skylaar just hit with his axe.

You fire a lava-dipped bolt at the spot Phantom hit. It deals 32 damage, and crumbles the golem, as well as the already-very-damaged core. The core explodes.

Damage seems to be a little off, but it’s not significant enough to go back and check again.

Well done, you’ve defeated your first boss! You could’ve defeated the golem a bit easier though. The symbols on the pillars that @JohanLTU translated could have been pressed, so you could have typed “disable golem” on the pillars. This wouldn’t have disabled the golem though, as the golem is so ancient that it can survive without power from the pillars, but it would’ve made the golem permanently vulnerable and removed its runic blast.

As for the lore, some was given in the diary that was found, but basically, this was a religious temple for a religion that served a lion god, and they were being persecuted, so they constructed a golem to defend them, but the golem went rogue and killed all of them.

Now, time for rewards. Everyone gets a runic shard, which can be used on any weapon to give it a special.
Runic Surge
Charges every 5 turns, adding 100 damage to your hit, and a runic burn that does 10 damage every turn for 3 turns and healing you for that damage. Charges cannot be stacked.

Everyone also gets coins based on multiple factors.

I check around the area, looking for any potential loot I could have missed. I'm tantalizingly close to a Master crate, and I will get one, once I have the coins. Also, I remove the robe I randomly decided to put on earlier, and sell it.

 

Oh yes, I landed the finishing blow!
That's a lot of coins indeed, and I'll buy a Large Crate. (just changed my opinion).

Also, what about Boss Fragments? Did I miss something, or the Golem didn't drop them?
