Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

Pricking her finger does activate it, though there’s still no indication on how to deactivate the drain.
Granted, the benefits build over time allowed for the pin to drain mana.

 

Praecantatia tries pricking her finger again to see if it deactivates it, trying to study how the pin actually works. She puts her goggles on to see how the magic is actually being affected in and around the pin.

 

Pricking her finger while it’s active does nothing, but the pin seems to be absorbing mana and converting it into tiny amounts of null energy.

 

Concerned, Praecantatia takes a dark black box from her shelf that seems to actively reject magic around it, putting the pin inside to suffocate it from any access to magic. She then puts it back on her shelf, though monitors it, and gets back to making explosives.

 

The pin continues draining past the box, in a way also reducing the box’s effectiveness in terms of isolating things.

 

Luckily the box only seems to contain the pin, though Praecantatia tries fiddling with the pin a little more to try and make it stop draining.

"Cursed item..." Praecantatia mutters as she tries to make the pin stop.

 

Talking to it doesn’t seem to help, but she notices the pin cover on the ground nearby.

 

Praecantatia picks up the cover, fixing it back into the pin and closing it.

 

Doing so stops the drain.
Any nearby power source begins putting out much more energy than usual, the pin appearing to work.

 

Praecantatia quickly disables one of the magical bombs she'd already made, stopping it from exploding with the increase in power. A lot of Praecantatia's automated systems do seem to benefit from the increased power output, however.

Praecantatia lets out a sigh of relief, putting the pin aside and getting back to her explosives preparation.

 

Anything with elemental energy seems much more stable than it otherwise tends to be. Everything else is unaffected by the pin, until it runs out of mana a few minutes later.

 

A couple of days pass as Abigail gets prepared. Temporus stops by with a new set of armour for Abigail - including her tracking visor - and a lot of explosives are made for Abigail's mission. A near unlimited amount of cherry and small bombs are made, a medium amount of more destructive bombs, and four incredibly powerful bombs - two of which needing to be armed first, rather than being lit by a fuse - are made. Finally, using Stephanie, Artemis and I's memories, an illusion-disguise of one of the higher-ranking guards is made for Abigail to attempt to sneak in with; stored in a mage crystal so she isn't attacked in the void palace.


Abigail confidently steps through the rift into the void palace, armoured up with a connection to Stephanie on Praecantatia's islands through her helmet. She strides toward the portal to gaia's realm, ready to go further onward to Atavul's.

 

"Food is shiny to you guys?"

 

"No, I mean I try to get my crew not to just hoard jewels and stuff. We're not slaves to a dragon."

Emerald watches her silently.


Rose glances at Abigail, sighing.
"Well, are you going to be a better listener than the other three? Or should I arrange a rescue in case you do something equally foolish?"

 

"What else do I need to know?" Abigail asks, sounding a little overconfident.

 

"Do you guys just survive? That's it?"

 

"If you are seen by so much as a rat, they're gonna wipe that smug look off your face. Furthermore, forget the cloak. They know Stephanie was there, and you now get to deal with O'rogal warping latent magic in the area. I'd say it would be a double edged sword if it weren't for the fact that Atavul's guards are pretty much just brute strength with the literal smallest bit of magical talent." Rose says, blunt.

"That's our objective. Don't get the weight of any royal guards to come down upon us, get by, and maybe learn how to get by a little better on the way. Just because I've swiped from gods doesn't mean it's the dream job."

 

"What about these?" Abigail asks, a cherry bomb appearing in her hand. It seems to light on it's own, and Abigail throws it a short distance away. The cherry bomb explodes shortly after, leaving a small hole in the ground.

 

"So what's the whole goal with Gaia?"

 

“Yes, making noise is exactly the stealthy thing to do.” Rose sighs, rolling her eyes.

“Get more help. Maybe find a place a bit less screwy. At least move out the ones who don’t want to steal or are crap at it but lost everything. Ideally get her to come home after all this is over and give us something other than a now ashen waste to work with.” Scurn shrugs.
