Hello people! My last (and first) thread on this mystery has been made, so check it out. I am really grateful for all the comments and poll responses. The poll indicated that many people liked my thread, a fair amount said it was ok, and only one person didn’t like it. I can’t add screenshots until I’ve added ten posts, so there won’t be any for a few more threads yet. Let’s get right in to the mystery!

So, one of my closing questions last thread was about where the bandits obtained their gear. Benjin, in the comments replied with exactly what I was thinking: the Black Market Merchant in Almuj. If you don’t know, there is a black market shop hidden behind the waterfall on the right of the bazaar on the second step up. I went to the shop to have a look around. The merchant himself only sells Wybel paws for assassins. Now, this isn’t for sure in any way, but I’ve thought in the past that bandits were always most like assassins over other classes due to their stealth and stuff. Also notice that many of the bandits wield knives or throw them, which is an interesting connection. What else can we deduce about this merchant? Well, he is violent, as a number of human, villager, and animal heads lie on poles around the shop with blood on the floor. Also, there is a rune in the corner, meaning he may have some understanding of magic. Additionally, some quartz (known to have magical properties) is kept at one side off the shop. Is this where the bandits get their weapons from, or is someone else to blame?

So, at this point my brain was a little foggy and the brainstorming I was doing at the time wasn’t going too well. I decided to go back to the bandit lairs for anything I might have missed – and I found something interesting. The Emerald Knives and the Sandstorm Vandalisers both have really well fortified lairs, which is unusual for bandits. Bandits steal whatever they can, but I never thought of the being able to make working drawbridges triggered by pressure plates, as in deep within the Emerald Knives’ lair. The Sandstorm Vandalisers, too, have two small towers at the entrance to their base, and actual buildings made of a decent material inside. The Shadow Spears, of course, are being helped by Takan, so it’s reasonable that they have a good base. The Quicksand Carvers are traditional bandits which are much more primitive. But what about the other two? The amount of defence they have can only lead me to believe they had outside assistance.

But it seems too, that they had an enemy. At Takan’s lair, there is damage done to the walls and cannons outside the building. Someone wanted to attack them, probably the Almuj army. Yet, in spite of the cannon’s only small parts of the base are damaged, and some parts even seem to be repaired – leading me once again to believe that the bandits have outside assistance other than Takan (except the Quicksand Carvers perhaps). Who is this? Probably not the Black Market Merchant, as he is only one person, and one person can’t supply weapons, run a business, tell bandits how to build stuff, supply said bandits with the materials, go gallivanting off killing people and finding runes, and buy quartz at the same time. No, a group is involved here. Here’s the question: do they have anything to do with the barracks mentioned last thread? And more importantly, what are they trying to achieve with a group of bandits?

    CLOSING QUESTIONS:

    1. Who is helping the bandits and why?

    2. Why do Takan and the Shadow Spears have an alliance (remember Takan was once in the Nemract army)?

    3. What do the Sandstorm Vandals have to do with the barracks mentioned last thread – the two places are close enough that an archer’s bomb can deal damage between them.

    OVER TO YOU:

Please attempt to answer the questions above, especially the first one.

    1. Chances are the bandits hideouts and refuges are that of the ancient kingdom, their bases are underground after all.
    2. Takan's brother was executed by the Almuj army, his brother might've worked with the Shadow Spears so I wouldn't be surprised if he decided to follow in his brother's footsteps.
    3. The three bandit clans aren't the only ones out there, the Creden Tibus appears to be the most powerful of all, they took control of a nearby tomb and founded Rymek, so I wouldn't be surprised if Takan was planning to take over the province, they would probably want to prevent that.

    1. Maybe, but that doesn't explain how they got materials too big to carry.

    2. Until we get more evidence, that's as good an explanation as any.

    3. Yeah. What tomb are u talking about tho?

I'm really happy with the results of the poll. This mystery just took an interesting turn further west, so I will do one more thread on the desert and then we'll be moving to the pastures of Ragni...
