    Hey y'all

So if you couldn't tell already, I'm a HUGE fan of Octopath Traveler.

I'm curious, does anyone else here play it? If so, what secondary class did you make your characters? Have you finished the final boss? Who was your first traveler?

    Let me know!

Also tips for Galdera would be nice, still can't beat him

Hi, I'm also a big fan of the game, I've 100%d it several times, each with different team comps and class setups. My favorite character to use is Alfyn, due to concoct, and due to Concoct being so good you can really make him into anything you want. Warrior for some nice defense+extra hp and also swords+spears for his good physical attack, on the same route you can also give him Warmaster for all weapon types, or Dancer for +speed to let him go first 90% of the time in boss fights.

As for beating Galdera, I'll just copy-paste the team I used I commented on a youtube video:

First phase: This is frankly a damage sponge. Moreso than any other boss in the game, due to having around 500k HP, so you're in for the long hall. Though instead of trying to push through it with all your damage builds; it's better to have a more defensive approach due to all the stuff this phase throws at you.

-Alfyn (Dancer) With speed enhancing equipment, you can make it so Alfyn can move first in a lot more situations. And due to his ability to weild Axes, you can give him the Double Tomahawk, which doubles the amount of normal attacks, easily exposing Galdera's Axe weakness with up to 8 hits at maximum boosts. Having him use Concoct is also a huge lifesaver.

-Cyrus (Sorcerer) This one is necessary. The ability to hit all foes with Light magic (give him as much elemental attack as you can, both in equipment and skills, potentially using the Bishop's Staff, having high elemental attack and Increase Light) Don't worry about having to use SP Saver, as one of our other party members can make up for that.

-Therion (Cleric) It may sound odd, but Cleric Therion is one of the best SP supports in the game, so having the most damage boosting skills on Cyrus is a non-factor. Give him the max amount of SP boosting (Hypnos Crown, Robe of the Flame, 2x Stimulating Necklace and Inner Strength Passive) giving around 450-500 SP at high levels. Another thing he can do is throw Aelfric's Auspisces at Cyrus, allowing him to not only assist breaking Galdera, but also doing the maximum amount of damage during the break phases.

Tressa (Hunter) yes, best girl Tressa is making a key appearance in the final battle. Her role here is to provide BP if Alfyn is too busy Concocting health, and using Leghold Trap to expand your options. If she doesn't need to do anything else, she can just throw money in the form of Hired Help.

As for skills, you want Saving Grace on *everyone*. If Alfyn goes first or at least early in the turn, the basic Purifying Dust + Essence of Grape gives everyone an extra 3000 HP. Even better, once you have max boosts, you can use Dohter's Charity to frankly cheese, with the use of Revitalizing Jams affecting everyone, fully restoring HP, BP and SP.

Second Phase: This one can either be nightmarish, or so easy to the point that it's anti-climactic. This boss has around 180k HP.

-Ophilia (Warrior) Her role here is pretty simple. You need to be able to draw single targeted attacks away from Olberic. If he does die, use a NO BOOST revive. This brings him back with 1 HP.

-Primrose (Starseer) Starseer has some interesting skills, two of which are BIG helps in this fight; Divination, raising crit rate, and BP boost to spam on Olberic for Winnehild's Battle Cry.

-H'aanit (Thief) Pretty self explanatory, the Thief job here is to apply Armor Corrosive on the main body, once the other body parts have been killed.

-Olberic (Warmaster) This is a risky set, with several mandatory subskills for this to work. Physical Prowess, BP Eater, Fortitude, Surpassing Power. Make sure Olberic is at 1 HP (the easiest way to do this is to get into a Challenge with a high ranked NPC, and defend until you lose. That should put you at 1HP. Equip him with the highest damage weapons (Battle Tested Blade, Memorial Axe, Battle Tested Bow, Battle Tested Spear, Battle Tested Dagger, Giant's Club) and spam Winnehild's Battle Cry. Using this should kill the adds, but you will need H'aanit to Armor Corrosive before the next Battle Cry on the main body.

I also really liked the game and would call it one of the best RPGs I've ever played. ^^ My favourite character and first traveler is Cyrus, with Olberic, Tressa and Primrose beeing my other favourites, probably because they were my first team to complete the game. I have the habit of wanting to keep everyone equal and the best way to make sure everyone stays on similiar levels was to split the eight travelers into two groups and using Therion, H'aanit, Alfyn and Ophilia only after the first four already finished their storylines.

About Galdera, it has been quite some time since I beat him, so I don't really remember much about my strategy, but here is a broad description of my team:
    1. Phase: Therion (Dancer), H'aanit (Warmaster), Alfyn (Warrior), Ophilia (Starseer).
H'aanit is the main damage dealer, Winnehild's Battle Cry can easily one-shot all three souls at once, which is important, as killing only one or two doesn't accomplish anything if the eye just respawns them next turn. And with the BP boost from Ophilia she can use it almost every turn. The other three are for support (although they can still deal good damage with their special abilities, if they have nothing better to do). As [Lux] Atro already explained, this phase should be played defensively and the most important tool for this is Saving Grace, which is basically a must-have. Add one or two healers (Alfyn and Ophilia in my case) and with some items for emergencies, there is not much the boss can do to your four 8k HP travelers. Other than that, a strong attacker hitting all targets (either Sorcerer or Warmaster) is useful to kill the souls.
    2. Phase: Cyrus (Sorcerer), Olberic (Apothecary), Tressa (Runelord), Primrose (Cleric).
In the first turns, Cyrus' and Tressa should quickly dispatch the Blade with Elemental Break and Balogars Blade, as it appears to me as the largest threat. While Saving Grace is still broken, the "minions" in this phase can deal quite some damage and should be taken out as soon as possible.
Overall, I would say that your party setup doesn't matter too much, as long as both teams have one main damage dealer (your Warmaster and Sorcerer); and while the others might attack occasionally, they are mostly there for support. With things like Saving Grace, healing abilities, Alfyns Concoct, Dohter's Charity, Sidestep/Reflective Veil combos, BP spending, etc, there are many tools they can use to keep your team alive and let the damage dealer keep attacking.

    hi there
first traveler was therion he's pretty rad
i will elaborate my team in the Galdera part because it's still the same
anyway i too am a big fan hence my pfp

Galdera time (This is my strategy, you will probably be able to use it too seeing as the fight remains mostly the same)
The builds I used are a bit foggy but i'll try to remember
    First phase I used:
    Therion (Sorcerer)
Literally the most important piece in phase one. At this point in the game i had saved up my nuts and was around level 80-90. Any class is viable to be Sorcerer at that point, and in my opinion, Therion is the best sorcerer.
    1. He is best boye.
    2. He has 4 weapon slots. This is important because of weapons that "Increase <element> damage," as they can cause massive hurt. Therion used Harald's Sword, Heathecote's Dagger, Primeval Bow of Storms, and Bishop's staff (+2 fire, +1 light, and +1 wind). This beefs up his spells quite a bit, and when the enemy is broken or has no ele weakness, use Ignis Ardere. Now some of the other travelers can also do similar, but see rule #1. However, never use Sorcerer Cyrus or Sorcerer Ophilia at this point in the game, you get 2 weapon slots and their special attack is already so high that sorcerer is redundant for it. Cyrus is just a waste of the sorcerer, while Ophilia not only gets only 2 slots, but also has too broad of a role (support and offense, you will find that one is used more often then the other.)
    3. Steal SP, I don't use it often but it should still be seen as a positive.
    4. He has very high speed, meaning he generally goes first (in terms of a casual battle)
Now I do remember his build
    - Augmented Elements: Would use over Elemental Aid, the cost is a bit punishing.
    - Elemental Edge: 50% increase in ele damage and defense with no drawbacks.
    - BP Eater: 50% increase when boosting, very broken.
    - Surpassing Power: Unfortunately, this ability is required, or literally every attack would only do 9999 damage. Still, you get big hurt with it.
Items were explained earlier, but for armor, use 2 mental belts (or augmentors if you can't get enough ele/stimulating necklace if you need sp and have enough ele), sorcerer's robe (replaceable if you have enough ele), adamantite hat (same thing), and battle-tested shield (I prefer it over mikk and makk's because regen and defense, and we need mikk and makk's shield for another traveler...)
Ok sorry next ones will be short as they were more filler then anything.
    Tressa (Runelord)
Runelord on tressa is already broken, just more DPS to get over with phase 1. Also, Donate BP was helpful.
A good build for her is:
    - Elemental Aid: IIRC these affect her runes, so it's very useful in this case.
    - Elemental Edge: See Therion
    - BP Eater: See Therion
    - Surpassing Power: See Therion
Battle-Tested Blade, Tradewinds Spear, Battle-Tested Bow, Battle-Tested Axe (Therion used up Harald's Sword and the bow), Sorcerer's Robe, Adamantite Helmet, BTested Shield.
my ele attacker builds are very similar.
    Cyrus (Merchant)
Mainly filler, build didn't matter, really only used for donate bp and i used his divine skill once which was pretty good
    Ophilia (Hunter)
Hunter is a really good class, and it made a good pair with Cleric. Leghold trap was obviously used, Arrowstorm is a good move, and the heals are good. Don't recall build, but you definitely want a double tomahawk.

The phase is just spamming sorcerer spells as Therion, while Tressa helps out with runes, and the rest of the gang plays support. "Kill it as soon as it spawns", and with a good sorcerer it should be quick work.

Now then, Phase 2, there is a main strategy that ended the battle in less then 5 minutes.
    The useless travelers:
H'aanit (Thief, can literally be anything else if I was planning on using her), Primrose (Starseer), and Alfyn (Cleric)
Primrose and Alfyn was helpful in keeping Olberic alive, thanks to the reflect skills that essentially made him invincible. H'aanit was useless though and she is the worst traveler, but the game forced her into the battle.
    But now, the chad, Olberic.
Olberic (Warmaster) is how you do this. Get him to 1 hp by fighting a random npc, because his build is why that's necessary:
    - Physical Prowess: Physical atk and def +50%, while primrose was present the fight needed to end fast and it's not too shabby
    - BP Eater: 50% increase with BP, this will definately be used
    - Surpassing Power: See Therion
    - Fortitude: Increases damage when HP is lower, so at 1 hp, galdera goes bye bye
His build is Silent Bandana, Ethereal Dancer Garb, Mikk and Makk's Shield, 2x Physical Belts, full Battle-Tested instead of Axe (Memorial Axe) and Stave (Giant's Club)
You need to keep Olberic alive. If he dies, you don't necessarily lose, but you will have a hard time recovering. So, he needs as much evasion as he can get. The goal is to get 2 Winnehild's charged, which is another pro of the Starseer. Honestly, I just used Energizing pomegranite too, but yeah that bp increasing skill is epic. The first cast will break off his armor, and the second will kill him. If he dies, he loses all BP, so please, don't (Starseer and Cleric have the reflective spells, so use those.)

Anyway, thanks for reading lol, and good luck on the fight.
(Tressa is best girl, Therion be best boye)

I've not thought about making Therion a Sorcerer. I always have Sorc on either Cyrus (not because of gear equips but really just the sheer damage output) or Primrose when I need to grind. Prim's speed making it so she can quickly clear the field with Sorc spells. For Therion I guess I've always used him for support thanks to his speed or just decent physical damage. I am partial to Cleric Therion though, because self sustaining SP support is really nice to have. Interesting builds though!
