Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

“I’m not that desperate. I also have no idea how a human could ever come close to doing something like that.”

 

"Me neither, but apparently it's happened, according to Stephanie." Abigail says, laid back.


A day later, a slightly larger red faerie enters through the rift, along with a half-spider demon - the head of which he seems to be riding on as they talk.

"-ich is why Temporus sent me instead." The faerie says as the half-spider scuttles along.

"I can help you with that, for a small favor in return." The half-spider says with an evil smile.

"Didn't Mortius send you here for a specific job?" The faerie asks, suspicious.

"Well, yes, but what's wrong with helping out one of Temporus' apprentices while I'm here for a little good word?" The half-spider says, almost sounding offended as she glances around.

"Well, I suppose a small favor like that isn't too bad..." The faerie says, thinking.

 

“We’re really good at lucking into dumb stuff. I’d probably be willing to bet that’s how that happened.”


“Xlentia’s still passed out but she’s back in her chambers, the two demons are almost done healing, and I’d appreciate it if you would keep any demonic pact-formation out of my library.” Emerald says

 

"If Aj can somehow luck into one of Temporus' incredibly powerful artifacts a human could probably do the same." Abigail says.

"A human with that kind of power is scary, though." Katie says, sounding worried.


The half-spider scowls.

"Do you have any blood or bones or just evidence of the brute that came through here?" The half-spider asks.

 

“Anybody with that kind of power is scary. The best I can do is just hope they’re more responsible than they are moody, which wasn’t exactly the case with that watch.”


Emerald telekinetically gives the half-spider a fairly heavy box.
“I would say that’s his remains, but it’s really just all of him just in a relatively semisolid form.”

 

Abigail snorts.

"To be fair, Aj having it was probably the worst case scenario." Abigail says.


"Oh, thanks. This helps a lot." The half spider says happily, taking the box.

"Is Xlentia going to be hostile?" The faerie asks, glancing around for something before seeming to panic.

The half spider holds up a familiar looking tape-measure, "You dropped this." She says, handing it to the faerie on her head - who looks rather relieved.

 

“If it isn’t, I’m fine living in ignorance of what was.”


“No, she’s not even going to move. I just said, she’s still unconscious.” Emerald says, seeming a bit annoyed with having to repeat herself.

 

"Well at least he's just got a portal gun now. I've barely seen him use it much though." Abigail says.


"I meant if she ever wakes up." The faerie says, sighing.

The half-spider giggles to herself.

 

“It’s not the most useful thing to someone who can already shadow travel, it’d be better in Artemis’ hands. Well, everything would be better in her hands than his, but that’s only slightly beside the point.”


“You should be fine, but seeing as she beat herself to a pulp against a wall you shouldn’t have to worry about her moving on her own in a few months.”

 

"He said it can only stick to physical walls, so it can pass through magical barriers and stuff," Katie says happily, "I'd be happier if Artemis had it too, though..."

"Honestly it surprises me they're together. You'd think an incredibly powerful Shadow would at least be a little abusive, and I'm pretty sure Myria died once to try and summon him." Abigail says, throwing her arms in the air.

"Myria is Artemis' dead mother. She was brought back briefly, and then got erased to get Ihra back or something." Abigail adds.


"Oh, will she be able to receive a new set of armour in that state?" The faerie asks, concerned.

The half spider yawns, revealing sharper, more arachnid-like teeth as a bit of venom escapes her mouth and fizzles on the ground.

 

“I know who Myria is.”


“You could always just lift her up to fit the armor.” Emerald shrugs, encapsulating the venom in a vial.
“...Nevermind, this is weak.” She mumbles, desummoning the vial.

 

"Oh," Abigail says, "How much do you know?"


The half-spider doesn't seem to take offense, or even care. Instead, she scuttles off to Xlentia's chamber's with the faerie.

 

“Before you go off the rails calling me a pervert, I get my information secondhand. Rineth is a regular source, Ihra speaks with me from time to time, and sometimes I send a family member or two to see what towns you’re ghosting. None of them say anything good about you.” I say, making eye contact about Abigail. “Katie’s apparently an absolute sweetheart, though.”


Emerald pays them no mind, and the guards don’t obstruct the duo from entering Xlentia’s chamber.

 

“It’s alright, I know how to get to her.”
I turn back to Scurn.
“More walking to do.”
I gesture for him to head back.

 

He rolls his eyes.
“How the hell do you even keep up with these people?” He groans, starting back towards the portal.

“I’ll keep her here and reach out to you if she comes back.” Rose says.

 

Katie blushes a bit.

Abigail just takes a deep breath, gets up and leaves.

"Abigail?" Katie asks, watching Abigail leave. Abigail calmly opens the front door, exits through it, and closes it again.

"Wow, you must have really annoyed her." Katie says, worried, looking back toward the human.


The faerie gets to work measuring Xlentia, the half-spider supporting him. He measures each claw, foot and leg; as well as various parts of her head and wings, finally ending with measures of her body. Once he's done, however, he does it again right from the start.

 

“Dulling the truth has never been one of my strong suits. She didn’t seem nearly as bad as everyone said she was, though.” I shrug.


Xlentia, aside from very slight breathing, doesn’t budge. Her massive wings make measuring a matter of trying to gauge curves instead of straight lines, and the second measurements wind up being noticably different from the first.

 

"Abigail is really nice once you get to know her. She's just harsh around new people because she's had a rough upbringing..." Katie says, sighing, "She's kept me safe since we first met though. Whenever someone would try to bully me when we were hanging out, she'd beat them up...even if she got beaten up herself."


The faerie keeps taking measurements until they start to become a little more consistent, the half-spider creating a web to fall asleep in once she tires from scuttling around so much. The faerie doesn't show signs of exhaust, however.

 

“It sounds like she opted to raise herself. Which, based off prior observations with humans, tends to result in pretty much exactly how Abigail behaves.”


It takes them five sets of measurements before things start becoming somewhat consistent.

 

"Thanks."
I say to Rose, then follow Scurn, heading back through the portal and to the Shadow Palace.
