Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

"We don't want war either. We just want the humans to stop taking so much," Katie says, sounding sad, "And...polluting so much..."


A long while later, another group enters through the rift. This group is four times as big, and many times more demonic.

A succubus and incubus enter first. The succubus wears clothing that leaves rather little to the imagination and shows off her curves, while the incubus seems to wear even less to emphasize his chiseled features and large muscular form. Following them is a far uglier brutish looking demon almost thrice their size that seems to resemble a minotaur, carrying a large purplish black crystal; occasionally knocking it into the large horns on it's head. A green puddle of slime enters last, a small face on it's front as it slides along.

 

“The problem is that often the people who represent others seldom actually represent their beliefs.”


Emerald seems to be back at the front desk.
“Let me guess, Mortius sent you lot?” She asks, only bothering to glance at the slime.

 

"Why don't they just act for themselves?" Katie asks, "Surely they can represent another without compromising what they believe in."


"Indeed he did. We're here to return the part of Xlentia's soul he inadvertently took. We heard there was some...problems with one of Temporus' apprentices coming here previously." The incubus says with a firm, manly voice.

"We'd appreciate it a lot if you'd let us pass." The succubus says with a somewhat seductive tone; or perhaps her normal - if naturally seductive - tone.

The brutish demon just blows air through his nostrils, like a bull ready to charge. The slime just watches on quietly.

 

“No, actually. Society is practically set up to keep a few people speaking and everyone else silent.” I say, shaking my head. “Human society has so many problems that it’s to the point that they’ll turn their guns on each other. Frequently.”


“Be her guest. Show the guard her soul fragment, and you should be let in. Do try not to let her destroy it, she’s been rather fussy as of late.” Emerald says, a touch condescending.

 

"...Superb."
The comment is laced with sarcasm.

 

"Maybe that's Gaia's plan," Abigail theorises, "It's too dangerous for us to try and cut down the ever expanding population, so she's getting you to kill each other instead."


"Thank you." The incubus says, before moving onward with the rest of the group. As they go, the succubus gives any males she sees sultry winks.

 

“No, I believe in Lady Gaia and her ability to manage the problem... but a good number of humans really just have no qualms killing each other. If there weren’t guardians here, the humans would still be waging war.”


There seems to be a few more guards near Xlentia’s palace doors.
“You’re insistent on these measurements.” The guard that turned the faerie away grunts.

“I tried stalling her. Sorry I’m not good with nonviolent time killing.”

 

"Yeah, that's the point," Abigail says, "It's exactly what she wants. Make a few of you psychotic murderers so you take care of the population issue yourselves."


"We're here to return the missing part of the soul." The incubus says, the brutish demon carrying the crystal grunting louder in response.

"You're going to let us pass, aren't you?" The succubus says in a more distinctly seductive tone, eyes wide and pleading as a charm spell digs into the guard's mind - trying to twist their judgement.

The slime tries to sneak by the guards up to the door; attempting to slip through a crack.

 

“Except humans did it for her.”


The guard steps aside, and every other guard vacates the area.
“As you wish. Good luck.” He says, unsealing the door as Xlentia bashes into it.
The door gets flung open with planetary force as Xlentia stumbles out into the hall with a mighty (albeit mostly pained) roar with a crazed look in her eye.

 

"...Yeah." Abigail says, looking slightly confused.


"Quick, give her the soul!" The succubus says, glancing back to the brutish demon with a worried look. The incubus stands in front of the group, looking ready to protect them.

The brutish demon holds up the crystal containing the part of Xlentia's soul, offering it. The slime slips into Xlentia's chambers, curious.

 

“And they’ve probably been doing it. For as long as humans have been here. It’s just a human thing I guess.”


Xlentia snarls, her eyes fixating on her soul crystal before lunging towards it and attempting to snatch it from the demons.

 

"Maybe Gaia planned for that all along because she knew you'd get out of control?" Katie says, thinking.


The succubus and incubus fly out of the way, while the brutish demon - either too stupid to know fear or too brave to consider it - just stays where he is, holding the crystal up high.

 

“I dunno, I know that gods exist but I’m not big on religion. Plus, me finding things out the hard way is probably good for immortal amusement.”


The succubus and incubus get swatted by Xlentia’s wings as she grabs the crystal, though through a mix of exhaustion and her sheer weight she winds up tumbling into the brute.

 

"I find it hilarious that humans would sooner believe in some giant, omnipotent, omnipresent and omniscient god than Gaia herself, who actually exists." Abigail says, amused.


The succubus loses consciousness from the blow, while the incubus is barely able to retain his. Both fall to the ground as the brutish demon is crushed by Xlentia.

The slime slides back out of Xlentia's chambers, before looking worried at the scene before him. The slime slides over to the unconscious succubus, expanding into a more human-like form as he desperately tries to wake her up.

 

“I don’t understand religion in general.” I shrug.


Xlentia crushes the crystal before she adds herself to the ranks of unconscious, her body quickly mending the missing fifth as her wings slowly drift to the ground.

The guards rush in to try and aid the group of demons, several medics among them.
“Start with her, null charm before getting her to the bay.”
“The others?”
“One’s paste, the other two should be fine enough to relay that it’s safe to take their measurements.”

 

"I could explain the basics of it. You'd be one of the few humans that actually listens to it." Abigail offers.


The slime compresses once again, sliding under the succubus and expanding to lift her up - the succubus still unconscious. The incubus weakly watches on, before passing out himself.

 

“I don’t really want to know. What happens to me after I die happens, I get one shot to be whoever the hell I wind up being and I’d rather not live under someone else’s rules even if it meant eternal happiness.” I shrug. “I’d rather just go with whatever happens. If I get a favor from a god I’d repay it just like any other debt. I’m not going to pretend any god has a reason to listen to me because they don’t.” I say. “Though, if you’d like to take the rare opportunity to enlighten me, go ahead.”


The guards catch the incubus and carry him off, another duo approaching the succubus.
“We’ll take it from here. Please relay the outcome to Lord Mortius and ensure Temporus is notified that it is now safe to collect his measurements.” They tell the slime.

 

"Well, you'll either end up somehow gaining Gaia's favour and getting to enjoy a paradise-Earth where you're free to live whatever life you want without fear, end up in the spiritual world which is basically just being a ghost, or end up in hell where you get to be tortured for eternity by demons as your mind is broken," Abigail explains, "I've been there. It's pretty bad."


"Please take good care of them." The slime says, nodding, before sliding off back toward the rift.

 

“There’s... so... there’s just three different eternal afterlifes? I was sort of hoping I could just be done when my time came.” I say, seeming disappointed.


“Thanks for returning her soul.” Emerald says as the slime enters the library. “Hopefully the rest of your day goes better than theirs.”

 

"Well, if you attempt to destroy reality itself, you could get sent to null and just be removed from existence entirely." Abigail shrugs.


"I just hope they'll be ok." The slime says, looking a little depressed before throwing himself through the rift.
