Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

"Please don't let it make my volcano explode. It's always a hassle to clean up and you and Katie would be trapped in here until it was done." Abigail says, sounding serious.


A red faerie darts through the rift into the void palace. She seems to hold what looks like a tape measure, and speeds straight toward Xlentia's chambers; looking for a way in once she gets there.

 

"Scurn, you're going to have to get a lot more adjusted than that."
He turns to Scurn, then back to Rose.
"We're just trying to find Stephanie."

 

“It’ll be fine.” I say, dismissive.


The guards block the faerie’s path.
“Lady Xlentia isn’t taking live visitors right now.”

“Atavul’s mind controlled, and his advisor is right the hell in front of us.”

“Ex-asvisor. Anyhow, I’m afraid you just missed her.”

 

Abigail looks doubtful.

"Seriously. Don't." Abigail says, already sounding annoyed.


"Oh, um." The faerie says, before almost dropping their tape measure as they take out a written note.

"I am here on the orders of Temporus to- um, to take the measurements of Lady Xlentia, to- um, to assist in the ongoing war between- no, to assist in the ongoing war in your reality and strengthen relations between our realities," The faerie reads, occasionally looking up from her note to try to be a little more professional and forgetting what she's meant to say in the process, "I must be allowed to pass. It is im-peritive to the future. Of our realities."

"I also have this." The faerie says, holding up the note and pointing to a signature; which seems to belong to Temporus.

 

“I mean, they don’t have control over magma. They can’t do anything to your volcano in terms of eruptions.”


The guard takes the note and reads its contents, saying nothing and remaining otherwise still.

 

"How are they able to survive in the volcano?" Katie asks, confused.


The note seems to match exactly as the faerie said, other than a smaller line at the top that seems to be an instruction of sorts. The instruction reads:
"Ine, if you get stopped attempting to take Xlentia's measurements, read them this note and show them my signature."

 

“Obsidian dragons are offshoots of surface sea dragons. They’re adapted to swim in magma, but aside from fire resistance and magmasight they’re still more like surface sea dragons. There’s not really any water here, so they’re just kind of there with any steam reserve they had before coming here.”


The guard checks again to see if the stutters were written in, seeming unamused.
“Have you died before?”

 

"Woah, there are obsidian dragons?" Katie asks, intrigued.

"So they make steam? Sounds kind of weak." Abigail comments.


The stutters seem to be an effect of Ine's nervousness, the note itself reading flawlessly.

"N-No..." Ine says, looking worried.

 

“The steam is just the propellant. The obsidian fragments flying at you like a blunderbuss I can’t say is terribly weak.”


“Tell Temporus that Xlentia will not be seeing you until Mortius returns the piece of her soul he’s keeping. And to send somebody expendable to take measurements.” The guard says sternly, handing the note back.

 

"So it's more like an earth-based dragon?" Abigail asks.


"Um, I think Mortius will be coming when the new armour is ready," Ine says nervously, "T-That's what I need the measurements for."

 

“No, it’s literally a sea dragon that evolutionarily decided that living in magma was a good idea.”


“No soul, no measurements.” The guard says, tightening his grip on his lance. “We owed you in the past. Welcome to the present - now leave.”

 

"And it didn't get any fire abilities?" Abigail asks, confused.


"Well, um...my future is bright!" Ine says, trying to sound defiant before glowing red and seeming to disappear entirely. Time seems to have shifted a bit around the guards, however.

Ine searches for a vent or some other method into Xlentia's chamber in the brief amount of frozen time she has.

 

“No, aside from being able to produce racks of dagger-like obsidian from what once were it gills.”


There are none; the chambers are sealed with the doorway apparently marking the lone entry and exit.

The other guards seem on alert, some of them carrying what resemble light pulse rifles.

 

"No...electrical powers?" Abigail asks, doubtful.


From a guard's perspective, Ine appears to teleport to the ceiling after she glows, though she tries to stay hidden while she recovers.

 

“Dragons are quirky, okay? I just help raise the buggers before they can bite my head off.” I say, a bit annoyed.


The ceiling seems to fall out from underneath her, creatures of less than friendly appearances awakening in response.

 

"Your dragons are weird," Abigail comments, "At least they're not perverts though..."

Abigail takes a careful glance outside of her window to make sure she isn't being watched.


Ine manages to stop time for the ceiling for about half a second before panicking a little, looking around for a safe escape.

 

She sees nothing out of the ordinary.

“As long as they aren’t borderline extinct.”


There isn’t exactly a safe ‘escape’, though the guards don’t seem to oppose the obvious way out going back down the hall.

 

"I think the humans made protection laws or something about killing dragons now," Abigail says, "That, or they know to stay away from fire guardians."

"Humans aren't as aggressive as they were. Most of them, at least." Katie adds.


Ine flies as fast as she can back to the rift, pausing time for anyone that tries to stop her for a quarter of a second.

 

"Any idea where she went?"

 

“Most humans are adverse to war. You just have to get past the absurdly rich and vocal minority.” I shrug. “Nobody wants an eternal war. Unless you’re Atavul.”


Nobody blocks her path back.

“Unfortunately for you, it sounded like she went back to relay information to her mother.”
