The problem i have here is that the jump from step 3-4 is so obscure, that by figuring out the TV show, you open yourself to possibly hundreds of phrases and quotes - how does one know that it is the right one when they choose it?

Edit: does the word "evergreen" have anything to do with the puzzle?

 

We weren't trying to get info out of him, just casually talking about the puzzle (don't go harass Peeves for clues), but this seems like a really handy hint.

I dunno if this has been touched on before but if you take that - and think of it as a minus sign you get -5 x 10^7 even.

 

I was wondering, does the - mean it is in a range, or is that a minus symbol?
