Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

"All but four of the other kids who were holed up in that room you found me in, you haven't seen the others. None of 'em bothered coming out to say hi while we were in Levi, probably because you're Idhaenna's tech and a handful of them were orphaned during the techno-magic war." Scurn says, following. "Nearly all of them only steal because it's just the way they can make ends meet. I'm the douchebag out of all of 'em, considering I do it for fun."

 

"Oh, just around this forest. I wanted to collect some fruit from the trees, since it's cheaper than buying them in the cities." The Shadow explains.

 

"Fair enough. Looked like you were waiting on us, so I wasn't sure. Regardless, have a good one." Idhaenna says, starting to continue on.

 

"Stay safe!" The Shadow responds, heading further in to the forest.

 

Idhaenna checks to make sure Tiril is moving again.

 

Tiril sticks close to Idhaenna, like a duckling to it's mother.

 

“What did I say about bringing a nervous wreck to the capital?” Idhaenna sighs. “Whatever... did you recognize that shadow?”

 

Tiril shakes his head.

"I've never seen them before." Tiril says.

 

"Just wondering. You seem sort of repulsive to shadows for wanting to work in their realm, though."

 

"T-They're pretty scary. Haven't you heard the stories about them stealing your body and making you kill your family and friends while they're posing as you?" Tiril asks, scared, "I-I mean, apparently a pact was made to stop fighting between guardians and shadows so we could focus on the threat of humans, b-but the more feral shadows don't seem to follow that..."

 

"How'd you end up with your lack of education?"

 

"Insert generic sad story here. Grew up with foster parents who were living double lives using me and a few others as slaves of sorts under the guise of being homeschooled, until I stole enough to bring them to the ground. They assumed I did it, which they were right about, and I was pretty much banned from anything that wasn't a prison since they told my actual parents and they had the authority to do that. Just to confirm your suspicion, yes; I did ruin their lives next. After that, my name really spread like wildfire and I really got banned from anything that wasn't a prison." Scurn shrugs. "Though I assume you're really just hoping I wouldn't realize you're calling me stupid."

"Feral shadows are hunted by normal shadows, you've got nothing to worry about. Unless, of course, you start trying to kill people or wreck stuff that isn't yours. Or come out here solo for... honestly why the hell did you think it was a good idea?"

 

"I-I didn't realise this place was so dangerous, I just thought it was like Earth but for Shadows..." Tiril admits.

 

“I’m not calling you stupid, I’m calling you uneducated. There’s a difference. And it’s not like I get to gloat because I have artificial intelligence and you don’t.”

 

“Now you know better. The Realm of Light is similar, just a bit less hostile overall. Maybe you’d care to visit my domain someday?” Idhaenna offers. “It’s not the most interesting place, but the stars are a sight to behold regardless.”

“You know, you’re the first person that’s both hated me and not actively tried to shame me for something.”

 

"W-What's it like?" Tiril asks timidly.

 

“My palace is a custom built space station orbiting a black hole, so if you ever wanted to see one up close without being in danger that’s your chance. Beyond that, I’ve got plenty of starship crews willing to board the occasional guest for stargazing. Some sectors from some angles even have nebulae make constellations look like painted pictures, if you’re into that kind of stuff. Or, if you just wanted to visit a bunch of different planets to see what things are like at different stages of developing life, there’s that.” Idhaenna says. “If there’s a star in sight, I can bring you there.”

 

"I um...I'll have to think about that..." Tiril says, sounding unsure.

 

Idhaenna laughs.
“Don’t worry about it. One step at a time, right? Capital first. Worry about other things once you’re up and settled there.”

 

Tiril nods sheepishly, glancing around for any Shadows or shadow-based creatures.
