Old Wynncraft Screenshots Of The Entrance To Gavel (1.5 Years Before Its Release)

These screenshots were taken on June 3, 2014, during patch 1.11.2. I am a mostly inactive player with spurts of activity and I joined Wynncraft well over 6 years ago. One day I remember my friend telling me about a new place he found with a large unfinished gate, hallway, pathways, and more. We had no idea what this place was as we were still on the old map (RIP) and we decided to explore the area. I'm sorry I only have a few screenshots, I was around 13 at the time and did not have the foresight to spam screenshots about every detail in hopes of sharing my expedition with future Wynncraft players. In the end, I hope we can enjoy this little throwback to the old days.

Stumbling upon the entrance to the Great Bridge back in 2013, it had always struck me as to how grand the structure was then. Standing before the four massive pillars felt so surreal and the feeling I experienced was something otherworldly.

This was 2013! The jungle had only came into existence for a few months and was back then the highest leveled area you could go to in the game. This gate - the original Great Bridge - was all that stood between the small green valley tucked in the corner of the Nesaak Forest and the newly released overgrown thicket of unimaginable dangers. Not to mention the magma cubes that lined the path giving you a hard time reaching either side. That was kind.

I have been a veteran of this server since the mid 2013s, joining shortly after the release of the original trailer (which can still be found on the CraftedMovie channel). Out of all the places on the original map, the Great Bridge was no doubt my favourite. As Minecraft grew, the server grew too. It's always heartening to see the revamped versions pay homage to the original build by not changing the layout too much. I can't posit that revamped builds are bad, but from my perspective the modern day reproductions never gave off the same aura that amazed me in 2013 and 2014. Perhaps it's just that I've been playing for over 6 years, and new players who have never experienced old Wynncraft will tend to disagree with me. Still, the Great Bridge will, and always be, the very first sight in Minecraft that made me breathe: "Wow."

Everyone must accept that everything will become different over time. It’s like the law of entropy. It may not be now, three years from now, or even decades, but eventually all great things will come to an end. Wynncraft's beta days, reminisced by groups of players, are now a thing of the past. Embracing progress is important, but it is even more important to acknowledge where it all came from.

That screenshot was from the Nether, Wynn's PVP arena (which is offline currently, I think). [+1 Deaths] means the player died there and another death has been added to their online statistics.

 

That makes more sense
