I look at the others for a few seconds.
I reach for one of the books that talk about the 'History of the Skull', I don't mind which one I pick.

 

Heat produces the ‘History of the Skull’ book from his bag. (I’ll need to check which volume/version it is later)

“We will. We will stop them. Our methods may seem chaotic, malicious even. We, or specific individuals, are not innocent. However, justice cowers to calamity. Our ultimate goal is to shatter. Our opposition, the plague, will shatter to oblivion.”

Given the choice, I would gladly retire from this 'holy war'. Be a healer, or an artisan, or a scholar, or a preacher, and serve my people and my flock peacefully. Repent for my sins. The mayor pauses for a moment.

"Very well. We shall see your true worth. Stay in this village for five days and five nights, I will cover your room expense at the inn. Stay in our town and let the townspeople truly see what you believe and how you behave. At the end of the five days, they shall vote on your innocence or guilt."

 

I mentally whistle in appreciation as I lean up against the nearest wall.
