I stay in the middle of the group and don my vestments and put my hood on.

 

Heat falls back to the rear of the group, partially by intention and partially because he is having difficulty keeping pace.

 

I'll stay close to the front, if not at the front of the group.

Alas will stay near the front with a great smile.

 

The guards lead you into the town hall.

It's a large wooden building adorned with antlers above the door.

The guards motion for you to enter

 

I head in.

 

Inside the hall are rows of benches, built like a courtroom. Various people (you count 15 total) dot the benches. And at the front is a middle-aged man with a long dark beard. He sits behind a large wide podium that reaches up to his stomach, awaiting as you enter.

 

"You wished to see us, correct?"

 

The mayor has a bald head and golden eyes. He has smooth brown skin, a round unforgettable face, and he is missing his right hand.

"I am Unqo Wildwood, Mayor of Exton. I had received word you were heading this way. Now that you are here, we can begin."

He addresses the audience. "We shall now proceed with the trial of these vigilantes individuals and their crimes against the kingdom of Nore!"


[If this was a TV show, the camera would pan to your shocked faces and then go to a commercial break]

 

If anyone sees althiaos he looks like he's sweating bullets.

 

I take a deep breath and try to relax myself.

"State the charges, then."

 

"Crimes?! Hold on!"

First of, do I recognize anyone?
Second of.. "We are trying to stop evil here. Sort of!"

This includes but is not limited to carrying of contraband materials, forcibly drugging individuals, murder of humanoids, arson of an old man's house, the burning of an entire town, conspiring with crime lords, the destruction of the entire city of Seneca, the release of rampaging demons and elementals throughout the region, regicide, endangerment of a minor, possible kidnapping, possible torture, and creation of mass panic, theft of valuable diamonds and other materials, impersonation, vandalism, assault."

"You claim to be fighting the undead, but compare the number of lives that have ended at your hands compared to those you have actually saved."

I look at the party, specifically Alas, Caligo, and Althaios.

I keep my hood up and keep looking down

And then he whispers to Kyelas : "Oh, and if my maths are right, since I travel with you I saved more lives than you and murdered less people than you. Remeber the demon (ooc : or devil, don't remember) I sent away ?"

"We'll sort out who did what, as it would be unfair to punish individual members who had no involvement in the crimes committed. Thus, I will explain the ones I do know the story of."

"First, a certain clown got marked by a devil, allowing her to track us. Said devil burned down the old man's house. Or maybe it was one of our agents of chaos in an attempt to escape said devil, I have no idea, I wasn't in the room when the house caught fire."

"The town burning was seemingly due to an entity by the name of 'Baba Yaga'. We came back from defeating some cultists controlling the fey in the woods to find the town torched."

"Seneca's destruction involved us being tricked by some wizard into fighting an avatar of death, resulting in the ward being disabled for... Some reason. I'm not a wizard, I don't know how these things work. Guess that's how he tricked us."

"The 'minor' in question was the sole survivor of the town Baba Yaga burned. We were unable to find a safe place to leave her, but seeing as she is not accompanying us, I believe our furry companion found somewhere... Correct, Ti'Lin?"

I look at the others.

"Now, I'd like whoever did everything else to explain themselves. Namely, the assassination attempts, murder, conspiring with what I can only assume is the crime lord that later tried to kill us, kidnapping, torture, vandalism, impersonation, and... Regicide."
