"Maybe. But I suppose that's none of my business. She does pretty good, I think."

 

“Does that mean I’m good at my job?”

Rose turns to leave before pausing one last time.
“Oh, right. No matter what Abigail says, Chroma is not your enemy. Kiin wanted me to relay that, though that’s probably because Chroma is her second in command.”
She turns again.
“Now I’m gone. Don’t kill yourself, kitten.” She says, hitting Abigail in the snout with a balled up piece of paper on her way out the door.

I mean, the suit looks really nice. I guess we could look at the rest of her work while she’s gone, too.

 

Abigail doesn't respond, though a fire in her eyes suggests hatred.

"But-" Katie goes to say, before realising she's too late.

 

“Five days of being a good girl out of your entire life won’t kill you. It will do the opposite, however.” Writing on the paper reads.

“...But?” Apocalypse asks, looking smugly at Abigail.

 

"Well, Abigail said that Chroma kept trying to kill her, and I think he tried to kill me too!" Katie says worriedly.

 

“Abigail I can understand if literally everyone kept trying to kill her, but he wouldn’t dare leave you with any grievous wounds.” Apocalypse explains, remorseless. “Every equinox has lived under the vow of protection for the admiral and their families, and Chroma was the first to make that vow.”

Apocalypse glances at Cel.
“May I come in?”

 

“Yes.”
I nod.

 

"Would that be smart, us going through her stuff?"

 

Cel nods, though it seems all the new faces and social activity is starting to wear thin for him.

 

"Am I allowed my weapons or are you going to treat me like I'm sixteen?" Scurn asks.
"You are sixteen."
"Shut the hell up, Levi."

"Not a social butterfly, I see. Regardless, I'm glad you're taking care of Abigail. She may be an asshole, but she's practically me when I was younger." Apocalypse laughs.
"No, I figured that you all deserved an explanation about Chroma. He went to work with Atavul in exchange for access to his records. See, as dumb as that giant bird is, his heart's in the right place. He's mind controlled, as you know, but he didn't always torture everyone he got his hands on." She explains.

"He hates subjecting innocents to war, believe it or not. He thinks everyone should fight at least once, only to understand the sacrifices others make. That aside, he keeps trying to grow stronger and to have a stronger army to test his own defenses. We let him have Chroma in exchange of receiving any advancements he makes."
Pause.
"I'm not saying his methods aren't backwards, but again, his heart is in the right place. If he could build a sanctuary strong enough to protect his people from himself and his forces, they would be in the safest place they could be. Only problem with that now is that the Hive Master is real damn fortified."

Most of it is just hanging up on a rack. We don't have to go through it to see it.

 

"Abigail is not an asshole! She's a good person who takes care of her friends and protects them from bad people!" Katie suddenly exclaims, seeming offended.

 

“Depends.”
I shrug.
“Gaia’s still a goddess, though, so she should be fine.”

 

"Your sister is a bad person? Ihra's a bad person? Rineth's a bad person?" Apocalypse asks, skeptical. "She doesn't give people time to see her good side. All most of the rest of us see is an asshole."

"I didn't mean I wanted to go kill myself at a god, I meant that if you trust me as little as you do then I have no reason to trust anyone else more than you trust me."

 

"Well...maybe you are bad people to her!" Katie says defensively.

"Katie, come." Cel says with a commanding tone, leading Katie out of the room.

 

“She has every right to defend her friend, regardless of my words or hers. Perhaps, though, it is indeed more of a coincidence she share’s the princess’ name and unwaivering loyalty...” Apocalypse says, seeming a touch lost in thought.

 

Cel returns after a short while, sans Katie. He goes to sit down on his sofa, before realising it's fallen into the Abigail pit. Sighing, he fishes out a small device and begins tapping on it, occasionally pausing to think.

 

“I can get someone to bring you a new couch, if you’d like. Or I can leave, since you seem tired of people right now.” Apocalypse offers.

 

"It's preferable. I have a lot of planning to do." Cel says.

 

"To which one, or both?"

 

"Let's have a look then."
