"I'm still keeping my guard up."

 

"The dragons here never went feral. Regular dragons and fire guardians cannot speak an understandable language as their voicebox changes with their form. It would be...difficult and impractical for them to keep some of the organs in their transformation," Cel explains, "They can be understood, if you know the language."

Abigail blows out a puff of smoke through her nostrils.

 

“It’d be better than us trying to figure out what the other means.”

“Fair enough, just know that snakes won’t bite unless provoked or hungry, and they can only really swallow things whole.”

“I’d love to say I have time to study it enough to talk without reading your mind, but I really don’t.” Ihra admits, turning to Abigail. “Sorry.”

 

Abigail yawns, exposing a multitude of extremely sharp fangs, before laying her head down.

Katie walks over to Abigail and gently pets her head.

 

“Rose should be here shortly. I’ll work on getting Kiin’s skull back to being only two pieces, and hopefully next time I see you is back in my reality. You really do turn the tables more than you might think.” Ihra says, turning to leave again.

 

Katie just looks scared, though Abigail lets out a low growl in response.

 

"I'll trust you, just because you own a snake."

 

"Alright, so you want to get to and speak to the Gaia that isn't a golem."
I say clearly.
"Just making sure I get this right."

 

“Correct.” Scurn nods.

“I... suppose that’s a fair reason.”

“This only happened because you went too far. Again.” Ihra says sharply, glaring at Abigail as she leaves.

A couple minutes later, Rose shows up and knocks on the door.
“Would this be Cel’s residence?” She calls.

 

"Now. Didn't you have to go somewhere?"

 

"Yes." Cel responds calmly.

 

"I'm impressed you kept the damage this low. Then again, I suppose you did use more... extreme... measures." She says, walking in with her namesake flower in hand.

She approaches Abigail, tossing the flower onto her forehead.
"Do me a favor and stop moving, or it's going to hurt even more than it does now." Rose says, the diamonds on her wedding dress sparking into tiny flames as a freezing blue flame forms around her left hand.

"Yep. Don't explore too much, I keep my favorite snake in my room." She says, heading back downstairs.

 

Abigail closes her eyes, staying still.

"I've tried to reinforce my home against extreme temperatures, to a degree." Cel explains.

 

"Good. Good."

"What shall I do if anyone wants to come in. Invited or uninvited?"

 

"I will say, I'm not sure Ihra will be able to help Kiin. You left her with third and fourth degree burns throughout her body, burst blood vessels, along with a broken neck and skull. That much physical damage would be enough to put down even a god."

Rose holds her burning hand in front of Abigail's nostrils.
"It'll feel cold, but breathe deep... unless you prefer going without anesthetics." She says quietly, rose starting to grow into a somewhat thorny blindfold over Abigail's eyes.

"Nobody's invited other than me, so whatever you want with 'em. You can probably use the hammer downstairs as a weapon if you need."

 

"Understood. I won't let anyone in then."

"See you later then?"

 

“...Let me think for a moment.”
I look to the ground, hand to my chin.

 

"How did she become burned?" Cel asks.

Abigail prepares herself, letting out a short puff of smoke.

 

“It looked like electrical shorts burning nerves, bone, and flesh. Whatever it was, she’s either dead or going to be needing a symbiotic prosthetic.” Rose says.

Abigail feels dizzy and numb as she inhales, though thorns start digging into her hind legs as a wave of heat feels like it radiates through her body. It hurts, a lot, but most of Abigail’s body is numb by the time she’d try to react.

“Too much data for your memory banks?” Scurn teases.

“I’ll be back in two hours. See you then.”

You can hear the front door close.
