Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

“Oh, that’s good to know.”
I say sarcastically.

 

“T-they bumped into me and then fell over...” Kiin says, scared.

“If it makes you feel any better, he does have a box he stays in during the night.”

“People call my ilk spellthieves. What did you expect?”
“I expected you to repay my favor when I asked you to.” Levi complains.
“Okay, look, he came here, not the other way around. I haven’t been out since the barrier went up and you know it.”

 

Abigail just sighs.

"Let's get out of here before anyone starts calling us murderers." Abigail says.

 

"A bit. I'll just make sure to properly lock my door."

 

"Just because you're called something doesn't mean you have to be that thing."

 

“Sis said they’d be fine, though!” Kiin says, worried.

“Okay, fine. Would the word ‘borrow’ make you feel any better?”

“It opens inward, so just put a chair in front of the door. Guest room doesn’t have a lock.”

 

Abigail shrugs.

Cel leads the group out of the arcade, into a hot afternoon. Abigail throws a blue fireball at Katie, who seems to stop sweating.

 

"Easy enough, I suppose."

 

There winds up being a bit of rain around Kiin due to the temperature difference, though her scepter seems to be keeping her comfortable.
“How many coins are in the cup, anyways?” Kiin asks, trying to distract herself.

“I should be just another minute. I’ll show you to the second floor then.”

 

"Why not count them?" Katie suggests happily.

Cel tries to balance the temperature difference between Kiin and the volcanic plains around her, though doesn't show it.

 

“Because I don’t know how to.” Kiin says, unaware of how pitiful that sounds.

 

"You...don't know how to?" Katie asks, surprised.

 

“Rose was teaching me how to read, but she didn’t get around to counting before I, uh... lost the living room.”

 

Abigail snorts a little.

"Well...I suppose I could try and teach you." Katie says.

On the way through the volcanic plains, Katie tries to teach Kiin to count using the silver coins in the cup; though unfortunately she's limited to 72 coins.

 

Kiin winds up spending the entire time not being able to get up to 20, despite being fine counting from 20 onwards.

 

Abigail and Cel pay little attention to the pair, talking about their own things as Katie lags behind a little to teach.

Eventually, the group begins to head out of the volcanic plains, onto cooler grasslands.

 

Frost forms on the grass around Kiin’s feet as she walks, though she starts to get frustrated after a while of continuing to be stuck trying to get through the teens.

 

Katie remains calm and cheery, trying to help Kiin figure it out. Abigail and Cel try their best to stay away from Kiin's ice.

 

Kiin slowly picks up on it, still not quite grasping the transition.

Cel notices a silhouette of a dragon gliding overhead, though Abigail and Katie aren’t able to see it as it leaves no shadow.

 

Cel watches where it flies, keeping an eye on it as the air around him swirls with hot and cold.
