The streets of Varla look gloomy, collecting the morning fog between its tall buildings. Even in an autumn morning, Colden's weather remains of unrelenting cold. A few citizens venture in the streets, talking about the weather. A few groups form in the door of the taverns, talking about rumours of a shadow wandering the streets at night, the chat in a dark and eerie tone. While not one of the biggest cities in the nation, Varla wasn't small either, with its half-million citizens. It was rare to see something abnormal in the rather peaceful population that lived there, so it was no surprise that the population was horrified with the news of the death of the librarian of the town, found in an alleyway with his throat slit open.
Two people talked inside the Dark Willow tavern, however, sat on chairs either side of a table in a far and private corner of the establishment. A serious and hardened young man leaned his chair against the wall, talking about how he thought the town would be a calm place for him to consider his next moves. Much brighter in expression and clothing, a slightly older man tapped his fingers on the table and joked about how the town was finally 'getting interesting'.

"You realize your 'interesting' is a dead man right?" Said Deton in a slightly irritated tone.

Twirling a bracelet he had taken off, Fraise smiled at the younger one. "Oh, I do. And what a shame he died I say, but at least now we don't have to talk only about the cold, yes?"

The younger one simply turned his head away and snorted.

Leaving the Inn, Wren looked around the street for any sort of food he could get. Weighing his satchel of coins, he pondered about the amount of money he had; 10 Silver Pieces. Not much, but still enough to keep him going for another week, considering the trip he had to make farther west. His stomach grumbled from the lack of food provided by the second-hand establishment he slept in. A few signs dotted the streets, with one in special he had seen in the previous night; The Dark Willow. From what he had seen, it had fair prices and a meal wouldn't cost him that much.

"If only I hadn't spent money on that extra coat..."
He thought to himself, closing the dark cotton piece of clothing over his chest, shivering. "At least it wasn't entirely a waste of money."

As he started to make his way over to the building of the Dark Willow, the young man looked up at the building of the library. Having arrived in the city just a few days before the death of the librarian, Wren didn't know much of the man, but supposed he was a good person, based on the shock of the citizens. As he sunk deeper into his thoughts, he felt himself hitting something - or someone. Getting out of the trance, he saw a silver-haired teenager, probably only a couple years younger than himself. A few books about runes were scattered on the ground, which Wren promptly put himself to picking up alongside the teen.

"Sorry about that." He said embarrassedly. "Didn't see where I was going."

The boy laughed a humourlessly. "Yeah, I could tell." Getting up, he picked the books off of the older one's arms. "Thanks for helping me with them. I'm Darx."

"Wren." The cloaked one said with a nod. With the corner of his eye, he saw movement on the window of the library. Turning to face it, he frowned at the situation. Without looking at Darx, he asked. "Say, wasn't the library closed off due to the librarian?"

The silver-haired boy pondered quietly for a moment, thinking of the night before. He was able to get into the library, there were no signs he shouldn't. "There wasn't anything stopping the way, despite what the newspaper said." He turned his gaze to where Wren was looking. A shadow, much like what the rumours he heard among the citizens, was standing on the window of the library, holding a book. "Oh."

    --------------//--------------//--------------//--------------//--------------//--------------//--------------//--------------//--------------//--------------//--------------//--------------//--------------//--------------//-

"Useless." Vititae slammed the book onto the table, with as much force as his ethereal form permitted. Hovering over to the runic section for the fourth time in the past thirty minutes, wondering if the free access to the library was even worth it if all the information was this ridiculously useless. After years of roaming the infinite corridors of the Library-Archives, almost all information on runes outside it was either already known or outdated.

Looking down on the people passing by on the street below, the spirit squinted his eyes at the men looking at him, one holding a pile of runic books, one among them he recognized immediately. Advanced Runes and Aftereffects on Carved Material - Volume III, by ShastrĂ¡u Rhalek. The only reason he had come to this town was to find that book, which was donated by the Archives to a researcher on the subject. Turning his back to the window, Vititae began heading towards the stairs, with only a single thing in mind; Getting the book, and learning more about the amplification runes, which would enhance his magical capabilities at least thrice, if applied correctly. He had come across said rune twice, in the two first volumes of the book, however, due to the lack of knowledge, he wouldn't risk losing what was left of his spirit to a slip up on the carving of a rune.

The moment he 'stepped' out of the building, a man nearby shouted on the top of his lungs. "Spirit!". Giving the citizen a death stare, Vititae drew out his sword and pointed it towards him, which quickly closed his mouth and backed away. Turning towards the two young adults, the spirit started pacing towards them.

A scream cuts the early morning air. Something's not right today.

I recommend tagging Valkorion since he is that scene and could interfere with your action.

"Was that real or an optical illusion?" Darx was confused. He could not tell if he was dreaming, a trick played on his eyes or not. He became aware of his senses. "I don't feel like I'm asleep." Darx pulled out a piece of paper (19/20 left) and scribbed in runic 'Water' and splashed his face with this. He knew he wasn't a least a sleep, and a least wet. But was that a trick on his eyes or some optical illusion? "I think I'll check it out."

"Thanks for helping me kind stranger."

Darx walks away from Wren, (after picking up and packing his materials) and does a mini-jog towards where the commotion is.

    O!
In that case, ignore my first action.
A scream is more important than a shady figure since something's actually happening.
    "No problem."
Look back at the figure in the window before going towards the scream as well.

With both men jogging towards the fracas, the image of what was happening became clear; a person - or something that resembled one - had drawn out a sword, and seemed to be looking towards Darx, focused on the books he had packed.
A man, who you could only guess was the person who screamed, was on the floor, trying to get away from the figure.

I sheathe my sword into oblivion, making it abandon it's material form for later summoning.

I use my Particularity to collapse my self into my elementary form, an ethereal specter appearing as a swirling maelstrom of stormcloud and fog. I use a runic focus on my self, heightening my ability to travel. I choose to zoom towards the sound of the scream, phasing through walls and people in my way alike.

    Is everyone also paralyzed?

Darx sees the man phase into fog, passing over the screaming man and heading down the street, past a tavern that quickly filled in with people fearing the creature.
A few people were still outside on the streets, either looking at the fog spirit in a fearful curiosity or paralyzed from the same fear.

With a quick scan of the area, Wren concludes that no one seems hurt, apart from the man who was first in contact with the being, who seemed in the brink of fainting from fear. A few people dotted the streets, statue-like in their stillness, while others carefully went after the being, in an attempt to keep their eyes on it and not lose it on the morning fog.

I feast on their fear, fueling the engines of my mind and power. A being of such stature, Lord of Entropy, Serpent of Illiarel, should relish in the chaos he leaves in his wake.

I arrive at the site of the scream.

Arriving faster than anyone at the site, Vititae scanned the scene; A bloodstain coloured the dull grey road, dragging and continuing for a few meters before taking a turn on a less-visited street. The stench of iron was only slightly tainting the morning air, but to the spirit's senses, it felt as if it filled the streets. A few moments later, arrived both the cloaked and the silver-haired men, who took in the scene in front of them.

"A bar fight." Said Wren, pointing at the broken bottle laying on the sidewalk. Darx nodded at the affirmation.

Both of them turned to the spirit, which seemed to be delighted by the sickening aroma of blood.

Fraise merely shrugged his shoulders and clipped his bracelet back over his wrist. Taking a sip of water from his mug, he turned to the man,
"Quite frankly, I don't know nor do I really care. Someone must not be in a good mood today. I'd rather not venture out into the cold if I have to, unless you have the lovely idea of pursuing this commotion?"
