Arkclal nods.
"Interesting, though I find it somewhat strange that two drastically different approaches lead to similar results."

 

"Well, different samples for the same results. I haven't seen any Shadows or Light Creatures in Xlentia's place." I say.

 

"We usually call our equivalents umbrals and radiants; and both are Virei'tus' disciples, not Xlentia's." Arkclal says. "They actually are pretty familiar with edge beasts, being that Virei'tus' garden is deeper in the edge of the Void than most other creatures can survive. Maybe the biggest difference between your shadows and light creatures and out umbrals and radiants are that both are well versed in both light and dark manipulation... albeit I haven't seen many shadows and no creatures of light."

 

"I know. I know."

 

"I'd say we're similar, considering we're made entirely out of our respective elements." I say, changing the shape of my hand between different tools and weapons.

 

I simply nod.

 

“Guess that means we’re allies. You and your friends aren’t the only resistance force, unsurprisingly.”

“Fair.”
Pause.
“After you get back to your palace, do you intend to go back into my reality again?”

“What made you think about agreeing before tonight, anyways?”

 

"I rather not talk about that. Things went fast."

 

“I’ll make that assessment for myself.”

 

"Probably," I say, shrugging, "I'll need to stick around just to see if anything needs my attention though."

 

"Fair enough. Now go on, get some troops putting out some fire. Levi isn't gonna wait, and I'm keeping your crossbow as collateral." Scurn says, waving your crossbow in the air as he walks away.

"-lost contact with him. He's in the library, rendezvous th- hold on a sec. Thirteen? Do you read me?" Stella asks, seeming flustered.

"Too fast. Just remember, there is such a thing as too slow. The world waits for nobody."

"Fair enough." Arkclal nods.
He glances outside the carriage, letting out a sigh.
"Your status notwithstanding, why did you entertain yourself with my presence? I don't understand why you'd bother with anyone other than Ihra, yet you give me no reason to believe your intentions to return are a lie. Forgive me for prying, but... what's in it for you?"

 

I just shrug.

"Interesting company on the way back I suppose." I say casually.

 

Arkclal's eyes glass over.
"You're nothing like what most people say. Well... for the most part. I can't say I'm terribly comfortable sitting next to an armed person I barely know, admittedly."

 

"An armed person of a species often called genocidal demons, and are feared by humankind." I correct, smiling.

 

"...mmh."

"Maybe you're right. So.. got any suggestions on what I could do next?"

 

"Yes. Is everything fine on your end?"
I message silently as I quickly trail Scurn and the crossbow.

 

“I don’t really need to say that’s not helping, do I?” Arkclal chuckles.

“I’m not detecting any signs of damage. Any ideas what happened?”

“You’re an adult. You can choose for yourself. You already have a bunch of other things you wanted to do, right?”

 

“I’ve got a pretty good idea. Do you have any resources available that could help with an electrical fire? Or do I have any that I conveniently missed the explanation of?”

 

“You have no fire suppression equipment, but most of the medics still here do. Should I send an order for damage control?”

 

"Obviously." I say, amused.
