Damage Type Question

Now i know there are guides around here about the matter, still there is something that i don't understand:

Does damage type affect the spell damage? Let's say i have a fire based wand, does that mean that the meteor spell ,which deals fire damage, will do more damage?

Knowing this, do powders affect spells damage at all? Like if i put a water powder will my ice snake deal higher damage? if yes, does it add damage or does it just remove normal damage to add it to the chosen element pool?

1. Yes, elemental damage will contribute towards both melee and spell damage.
2. Yes, but only if the powder is actually of the correct element (for example, a fire powder with ice snake won't boost damage, because ice snake is a water spell)

Powders modify the base damage, therefore all damage-dealing spells as well as melee damage will be higher. You should check out motoki1's Damage Calculation guide.

 

motoki1's guide is unfortunately slightly obsolete in regards to how defense affects the damage calculation due to the recent update.

This is completely wrong, spells only convert neutral damage to elemental, spells have the same strength no matter what element you use.

 

That's true, however that's an extremely minor part of the overall guide - just one section at the end.
