"No, Arie's not an isolationist. She kept trying to go too far from the edge out of curiosity. There are much, much more dangerous edge beasts."

Rema nods, removing the barrier.
"Considering she's not with you, I take it the truth hurt?"

 

"Is there any end to this 'edge' then? Or is it just some guardian edge beast preventing access to what lies beyond?" I ask, curious.

 

“I don’t know. I’ve never been close enough to the edge to meet an edge beast aside from Arie, who was really more brought away from the edge. The study of the reality I live in is not my profession.”

 

"It did. I told her that I'll look for her in the forest once I got an answer, so now I got some time to figure things out."

 

"It's not really anybody's, I suppose. Other than perhaps a god's." I say offhandedly.

 

“Fair enough. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have a fire to stop.”

 

“What are you going to stop the fires with, your face? Your plasma band things?”

“Regardless... I worry a god here would confront Arie thinking she’s a threat. It’s hard not to notice a walking ball of warping spells and antinull magic.”

“How long are you going to keep her waiting, then?”

 

"I don't know. When I got an answer, I suppose."

 

“If you don’t mind me asking, what answer?”

 

“Well, I was planning on going to the fire, assessing the situation, and making a calculated decision based on the scene in front of me. So would you like to sit there and mock me for the next few hours as I try my best to be a good person, or would you like to leave?”

 

“I’ll roll with the former. Go on.”

 

I calmly approach Scurn getting within arm’s reach of him.
“Were you bullshitting about the fire, or is there actually something I need to be putting out right now?”
I say dryly aloud.

 

"Tenebrae isn't one to interfere too directly with such things." I say, though with some doubt.

 

“Idhaenna left the creeps that’re still here to you. I didn’t notice any fire suppression equipment on you.”

“Goddess of darkness, I assume. Similar to Xlentia, or is she one of those hands-off recluses? Erm... no offense to her, of course.”

 

"I don't feel like that answers the question."

 

"The question is; what to do with our relationship? Like, how do we continue after this?"

 

"You have the numbers, the tech, the backup. Levi, let Stella back through long enough to let him relay the order if he wants. After that..."
Scurn turns back to you.
"Amethyst sword, weird magitech robot, and shabby but functional internals. Thirteen, right?"

"If you can't bring yourself to talk it out with her, then you're not gonna get along for the long haul."

 

"Maybe? I don't know. It's complicated. This is the first time I have a relationship with anyone, and things happened, I don't know anymore."

"Maybe I should cancel that wedding, cause that won't be fun anymore."

 

"Sounds way too early anyways. Weddings are vows made for life."

 

"She's quite different to Xlentia, both in form and how she presents herself. Rarely are the gods seen by simple mortals, though prayer lets them feel a connection. I'm lucky enough to have met her a few times because of my status." I explain.
