"Okay, but where did these items come from? More importantly, how do you get rid of them?"

 

“I agree. So let’s work together here.”
The red cloak brings the pistol out of his cloak slowly.
“I need strong people to kill strong things. You need money, hours on your ‘protecting Masin timesheet’, whatever it is. You can’t have that if the world has fallen to demons and fiends, can you?”

“These items are created when the one who dies passes without achieving the purpose they had. This god shelters himself in their sorrow and lends them a hand.”
He loads his pistol with the bullet he fired in the tavern.
“I have an idea of how they’re destroyed. It requires experimentation.”

 

I half-smile. "No, I suppose we can't. And I can't pretend you haven't caught my interest."

"Nonetheless... I suppose I want a show of good faith."

 

Iados: ”Adventure.”

”It’s rather a lot, but I consider myself rather good at taking in information.”

 

Quietly lift up a hand.
"I don't think I have a reason to be here."
"Is it too late to leave?"

 

Iados: ”As long as I know we’re not going to go around executing my kind just because, I’m in.”

 

"I mean... I could use the reputation gained from it."

 

"I... Had no choice. I couldn't fight it, nobody was strong enough to, and I very well could've been killed had I stayed. My brother and I, well... We needed time that we lacked there if we wanted any hope of success..."

I activate my broom, have it hover a few feet off the ground, and sit on it, my legs hanging off the side. It moves with the party.
"I mean, I'm always up for some demon hunting, if that's what you're going with..."

I perk up and look at him, clearly worried, sped-up breathing included.
"It's not Tha- er, The Chained God, right?"

 

“Which would be...”

 

"So why are you the one leading all of this?"

 

"..."

"Precisely."

"If the item is what contains these trapped souls, but simply killing the souls once they possess another traps another, wouldn't it make sense to destroy the item turned weapon once the souls are released? Then where would the souls go once defeated?"

"I don't have to lead this. I hope I can guide you all to lead all of Masin. Is that too difficult of a job to handle for a few criminals?"
The echo of laughs returns, more softly now.

 

”Criminals?”

 

"As far as anyone I ask would know, you're all the ones who murdered a tavern owner and a group of musicians in that tavern over there."

 

I tilt my head downward a little and my right hand grabs my collar.
"I was taken here so I would be protected whilst the one who brought me prepared to face his cult... I guess now the real war begins, huh..."

“I was asking what the experimental way to destroy them is. Frankly, I’m not too keen on collecting powerful items and giving them to the first rando who asks for ‘em.”

 

"Simply put, the items containing the souls must be destroyed once the souls are out of them. The souls are then banished once the person who touched it and was possessed is killed."

 

"So essentially, had we destroyed that pen whilst the waiter was 'alive', killing the waiter would've released the souls?"

 

“So, to summarize, you want us to run around, destroying souls inside of various items, then you want us to destroy the item?”

 

“That’s what I think.”
