I sit down on the sandy beach, admiring the sunset. The calming sound of the waves, the smell of the sea, the sensation of the wind lightly brushing my body causes my eyes to slowly, slowly, slowly close. I begin to drift asleep.

    Shhk Shhk Shhk

I jolt awake to the sound of digging. Confused, I look around me, before my eyes fixate on the scene in front of me. Something is digging in the sand. I seem to have misplaced my glasses, but I'm too focused on the creature to realize.

    Shhk Shhk Shhk

It continues to dig, before eventually stopping. I can feel that it has found what it is looking for.

    Crack

    I freeze.

    Crack Crack Crack

The creature appears to be moving its legs up and down repeatedly. Is it...stepping on something? But what could be on a beach that makes cracking sounds when stepped on? I continue to ponder this question, before I hear an indescribable sound. My hearing deafens, and soon I can hear ringing in my ears. But that sound, I feel like I've heard it somewhere before...? I feel a bit dizzy, my vision if blacking out. I think...I should...lie down...

I am downstairs at 3 in the morning for a glass of water. For some reason I have decided to open my fridge. I stand there, one hand on the fridge door, and the other hand with a glass of water.

    Tug Tug Tug

I hear a knock on the door. Who could be there? I close the refrigerator door and walk over to my door to unlock it. As I open it, a figure looms over me.

    It is a llama.

I do not know why there is a llama at my front door at 3 in the morning. I look at it, and it looks down at me. For but a brief moment, the two of us are unmoving. The llama bends its neck downwards, and somehow bites onto the rim of my glass of water. It takes it from my hand as I am left speechless. It stares at me for one last time, as I feel a shiver go down my spine, before it backs off and disappears into the night. This whole ordeal makes my head hurt. I think I'm going to have to lie down for a bit.

Lately, I can't seem to stop thinking about llamas. Even when I'm with my friends, I can't get these animals out of my head. I am walking along the street, slightly lagging behind my group of friends as I ponder about llamas.

For whatever reason, I cannot help but to think of llamas as something like a furry horse. I am brought back to reality by one of my friends asking me a question. I laugh, and give a dismissive answer. My friends laugh as well, and as I laugh with them, my eyes wander to the road beside me.

I stop dead in my tracks

There is a llama, walking on the road as cars zip by past it.

I call out to my friends, who by now are slightly ahead of me once more, and point them towards the llama. They look at the street, and then look at me with confused faces. One of them laughs. I turn back to the street. The llama is gone.

It has been a while since I’ve last had an encounter with these llamas. It’s been great. But it all crashed and burned harder than the Hindenburg About a week ago, I was interrupted in my sleep by the bleat of a llama. I thought I was maybe just dreaming, but no, I wasn’t.

The day after that, I went to the grocery store and ran into a herd of llamas. 20 of the animals, just milling about in the store. I asked a clerk about it, but he just shrugged and explained that there were no llamas. I looked back to where I saw the llamas and they were gone. The clerk gave me a weird look.

For the rest of the week it was situations like these. Sounds of a llama at night awakening me, and during the day I would see llamas that would disappear whenever I mentioned them to anyone. I am scared now. The worst was last night. Instead of just the sound, I saw it. Even without my glasses, I could see it. A llama, standing beside my bed. It stared at me, and I stared back at its black, soulless, dead eyes. A cold sweat went down my spine, and before I could say anything, the llama spit at me and knocked me out cold.

I can’t help but to genuinely fear for my life now. This morning as I was walking home, I turned around a corner and ran into another herd of llamas, who started to chase me. I managed to lose them in an alleyway and get home safely, but I fear that not even my home is safe. Please, if you’re reading this, beware of the llamas.
