Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

“Probably because I’m not the resistance. Besides, I’m not sure many others in your town could make a difference as much as Abigail. I would assume it takes a lot to become close friends with the king of shadows.” Chroma mumbles.

 

"Hmph, I've fought in more perilous battles than she." The air guardian says, crossing his arms.

 

Chroma snickers, then starts laughing.
“I’m willing to bet you weren’t able to take down a goddess who can erase things from all memories and timelines.”

 

"Such a goddess doesn't exist." The air guardian says flatly.

 

Crystal looks back to the others, expectantly.


“I hope so.”

 

"Be wary if she hears you... the only one who can know of those erased reports that she used her power against the son of Tenebrae and Lux. You are not immune." Chroma says with a similar tone. "However, she has visited Earth before. Xlentia, goddess of darkness, decay, and destruction. Big enough to give Lady Gaia rides on her back, and the primary connection our realities now share. Her domain, the Void, is a place between realms back at home. Since the rift opened, it also acts somewhat as a place between realities."

Shack shakes his head.
"...Regardless. As per usual, I have a few tools and replacement parts. Fireweed?"
"Berries, herbs, charcoal."
"Obsidian edges, pottery. Managed to find a few intact bones this time, too." Landslide mumbles, dropping a dirt-caked bag off to the side.


The hare glances at the portal.
"Well... all I can really tell you is to listen to what O'rogal's people have to say. They'll be the ones guiding you up to the barrier."

 

Crystal looks to see if he knows any of the berries.


I nod.
“I’ll be listening. Should I go in now?”

 

"Tsk," The air guardian says doubtfully, "The humans have done a more convincing job at telling me there's some singular omnipotent and omniscient god than you have with your fantasy goddess."

 

"I understand that but... it's just a tad more difficult to trust you."

 

"If you wish to live in a delusion as much as they do, so be it. Such is your affair, not mine." Chroma shrugs. "I said I was yours to interrogate, though I would think it foolish to discard what I say. Lest, of course, you simply intend to waste the time both of us don't have."

"I know... I'm sorry." Anne sighs. "I just... haven't had feelings for anyone before. I don't want to lose you."

None of them look familiar, though some seem like hybrids of normal berries.


"Yeah, they should be waiting for you anyways. Well, uh... good luck? Hopefully everything works the way Idhaenna said it would."

 

"So, what were you harassing our resident, Abigail, over?" The air guardian asks, now straight to the point, "You've caused her volcano to erupt in the past, haven't you?"

 

“Attempting to provoke her into attacking me back at home. As long as she and her friends are there, my overlord fights a losing war. As for her volcano, I think she caused it to erupt once in attempt to repel me. I don’t recall any other eruptions.”

 

"So you attempted to lure her into an even more dangerous place by attacking her? Surely you knew you'd just make her more defensive, correct?" The air guardian asks, in disbelief.

 

“Her friends take any personal attacks extremely seriously. I didn’t need specifically her there, I needed them to turn the tides of battle again. She was the only one I could locate.”

 

"And why would she - or any of us - help you after you terrorized her?" The air guardian asks, raising an eyebrow.

 

“She wouldn’t. That’s the point. I work for Overlord Atavul and by relation that damnable Hive Master. We used to keep war and chaos confined to his coliseums, but since the Hive Master rose, he’s ordered me to attack countless settlements for no good reason. I’m a pawn in their chess game, but more importantly a pawn still with free will. This is a war I need to lose - and your kin are the ones who can turn the tides.” He says bluntly. “I don’t know how much longer I’ll be left with any free will. I either make my move or wish I did, and you better believe I’m not going to sit back while he turns my home into his slaver camp.”

 

"Well, it seems like you're not exactly pulling your weight if you're on the inside and can't sabotage your own war efforts." The air guardian says, now sounding disappointed with Chroma.

 

“What part of mind control do you not understand, the lack of free will or the inability to get away with one step out of line?” He snaps. “If I so much as consider saying anything I just told you, I become a puppet. If I lay a hand on another general, I become a puppet. If I hesitate to accept an order, I become a puppet. If I was able to come here and ask her help without my every breath being monitored, I would have. That option, unfortunately, was not available.”

 

"That sounds like your problem," The air guardian says unsympathetically, "After all, you don't want - nor are deserving of - our help."

 

Chroma sighs.
"Okay, look, you can either do something about it now or do something about it after the Hive Master is able to pick another reality to take over. I'm asking for your help making my side lose the war." He reiterates. "Why the hell is it so hard to get people who hate you to go after you..."
