Hey All, Love This Server And Want To Get The Word Out

Hey all, so I tried (and failed) to get the Wynncraft subreddit added to the sidebar for r/MMORPG. The mod team's response is that it's not an MMORPG as much as it's a MC server and they don't want to open the door to more MC servers populating the list. Which I can totally respect.

I did however ask them if they would consider adding it to the list of games like Path of Exile and Warframe. We'll see what happens.

 

Lets try to keep in mind about what we say to them in return, they can make a fool of themselves but lets not try to give Wynn a bad rep. (Toxicity in Minecraft is a part of the generalisation of the "Minecraft is for kids" argument, so doing that only feeds that expectation and stigma even more)

I get that. I was talking to two family friends yesterday, and they asked what games I played.

What they said, "Dota? League of Legends?"

What I said, "Minecraft, actually."

And they were really surprised by it, its quite funny (they were quite nice with it, however). :P

 

UPDATE:

We're not allowed to discuss Wynncraft or similar MMORPG mods/servers on r/MMORPG anymore.

The mod team doesn't consider them actual MMOs. I'm not going to argue with them, they've made up their minds and the only thing that could come from that is a ban.

I went out of my way to reply to comments and was doing a pretty good job of staying civil. I did respond in a pretty shitty manner to a few people, but that's mostly because their attitude was just awful. I did go back and make sure everything was pretty tame though.

This decision really pisses me off though. Especially looking at the sidebar of MMOs they have. I've played every single one of those games. Some of them are basically abandonware at this point with less than 1000 people playing them daily. Some less than 500. With dev teams that have either walked away or left them in maintenance mode to rake in cash.

And you guys get snuffed for being a "minecraft server".

What a load of bullshit.

And to rub it in, because they don't consider Wynncraft an "actual MMO", you can't even discuss it in the sub anymore.

Guarantee nobody from that mod team has so much as looked at the website for Wynncraft.

 

Not adding it to the sidebar is understandable, but outright BANNING discussing it is, excuse my french, fucking bullshit. Wynn is literally advertised as a MMORPG and fits all the criteria for being one.

It’s funny how sites like Reddit are advertised as “public” forums when that’s clearly not true. Instances like this is why I tend to avoid them, except for this one.

 

Yea, I'm really not happy about their decision.

Like I said, they clearly haven't even spent the 10 seconds to go and look at the webpage. It's not hard to see it's a full fledged game within a game.

Even the sidebar thing gets under my skin because the Wynncraft sub EASILY meets the requirements.

I mean, hell, they have a smaller list of games that AREN'T EVEN MMOS. Like Path of Exile, Warframe, and Anthem. Ya know, that game that has all of 10 people playing it.

Gotta be honest, dealing with the backlash of that post and now the mods of the sub. I have a whole new respect for the playerbase that this server has managed to cultivate. I had no idea of the stigma that surrounded Minecraft.

That there are regularly over 1500 people playing this server blows my mind and yet "AAA" MMOs can't break 500 people on a good day (ie ArcheAge, Mabinogi, etc).

 

Were you measaged by the mods that Wynn isn't an mmorpg? Or was it publicy announced?

 

I was messaging with one of them about adding it to the sidebar. I'm gonna post the two messages here.

First reply back to me:

" Wynncraft isn't an MMORPG, it's a Minecraft Server. Minecraft is a multi-player sandbox experience; if we add Wynncraft, we open the floodgates for other large Minecraft servers with RPG mods.

Frankly, it's not a floodgate we want to open, for reasons that I'm sure you don't need being explained. "

Second reply after I asked about posting my review/intro:

" We've actually been discussing this very topic. In short, we're not comfortable with such discussions in the future.

We didn't actually have an internal agreement over the status of modifications like Wynncraft when you made your original post, so we let it slide, but in light of our internal discussions on the matter, we're disallowing discussions of mods or extensions to existing IPs, even if their intent is to add an MMO/RPG dimension. "

 

Why can't they consider Wynncraft its own game? And mincraft can be considered a game maker. And again the mods still think Wynncraft uses fucking mods which god damn shows how much they actually looked into wynncraft. Wynncraft should be considered its own game, it's almost completely unrecognizable other than the world building and artstyle. The spells are custom built, the quests, the combat, etc. So now that they directly screwed over your plan of pros and cons. Making a post at r/Minecraft would be a much better idea, as the people at r/mmorpg are extremely close minded, even the mods are.

 

I'm honestly pretty discouraged to do the post at all, but I'm still going to. The whole point was to expose the server to a group that might of never heard of it. I figure by this point it's pretty well known amongst MC players.

 

Gonna eat some oatmeal and play Wynncraft.

This nonsense has exhausted me mentally today.
