    Hi,

I've asked this in the Discord a few times but it seems no one has the answer over there. Maybe someone can answer it here.

As the title states, I'm wondering how thorns/reflection damage is calculated. If you're not sure what I mean I'll provide two examples below:
    ---
    After mitigation:
A player has 60% damage reduction from his defense stat and 100% thorns bonus. He gets hit with an attack that would deal 1000 damage. First the damage is lowered by the defense, now dealing only 400 damage. Thorns is calculated after defense so now thorns will deal 400 damage back to the attacker.

    Before mitigation:
A player has 60% damage reduction from his defense stat and 100% thorns bonus. He gets hit with an attack that would deal 1000 damage. First thorns damage is calculated, as the player would receive 1000 damage thorns will deal the same amount. The attacker is hit with 1000 damage. Defense is calculated after thorns, the players' defense now reduces the incoming damage by 60% and thus he takes 400 damage.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Good question, and I personally am not so sure if there has been enough testing with thorns and reflection in the community to answer your question yet...

Personally, I think that Thorns and Reflection happens After Mitigation, meaning that the Attacker and the Defender take the same exact amount of net damage at each other. Do remember that thorns and reflection does 100% of its damage on Mobs, but it only deals 50% of the damage to players. So, in a situation where a mob and a player with similar hp fights, they both die, but in a PvP fight with a cactus builder and another player with similar HP, the cactus player dies first, and the other player has the same hp.

from some testing ive done, we've concluded reflection is useless in pvp because instead of affecting spells like it should, it only affects archer melee arrows while thorns does everything else

not really related to the original post but I thought i'd throw it out there

That seems a little strange. And also quite unbalanced.

Thanks for sharing the info anyway. Have you done any more testing like this?

I think Selvut stated it works after damage mitigation. Don't remember for sure, it would be on my stats and identifications guide.
