    Hey!

I have a school project that needs to be done when I go back to school. However, specially educated teachers have added a section in which I need to ask people to answer a set of questions. However in South Africa that is almost impossible seen as people don't like talking to people in the streets. So I'm urgently looking for some help. I need around 20 people to answer the questions below. If you can take a few minutes of your time to answer them for me I would be extremely grateful. Thank you so much!! <3 <3 <3

2.1 Do you know what human rights are? Please explain your answer.

2.2 Are you aware of human rights violations happening in your community? Explain.

2.3 Which laws protect citizens from human rights violations?

2.4 Is the government doing enough to ensure that human rights are protected? Explain your

    viewpoint.

2.5 Which department/organization would you approach if your human rights had been

    violated? Explain.

Politics are important, and people who avoid these hard topics out of fear of arguments are cowards. I'm sick of people going "ew politics" it's immature, and it shows your lack of passion for the betterment of people.

I'm glad your teacher assigned something like this, these kinds of discussions are important, and kids need to be more involved and more educated.
    1) Yes, I know what human rights are. They are rights that protect equality and my well being.
    2) I am aware of the human rights violations that occur in the world, but they do not occur in my community.
    3) For me that would be the Bill of Rights, as well as a lot of other legislation that protects me from the government.
    4) Yes, I think my government takes good care of its people, but sometimes gets too involved in personal affairs. I really did not like the Patriot Act when it was still in effect.
    5) I would not approach a governmental department, I'd rather be represented through a lobby. The ACLU would be my primary lobby.

Ice Bear will refrain from third person speech just this once as this is school related.

    1. Yes, human rights are things guaranteed to every individual regardless of race, religion, or gender. They include the right to travel, right to speak, right to equal treatment and many others. I believe that rights are something everyone is entitled to and what the world owes you.
    2. I am not aware of any human rights violations in my community. I come from a developed country with a constitution that acknowledges all human rights.
    3. In the US our constitution and local laws protect human rights.
    4. I believe the government (US) is doing enough to protect the human rights of its citizens however it is not doing enough to prevent corporates from exploiting the human rights of others. For example allowing companies to use sweat shop and labor in other countries.
    5. I would approach theACLU if my human rights were being violated as it is likely that the government would violate my rights though it is not likely to happen.

2.1: Yes. Human rights are mostly set as a standard for the rights that every human, regardless of race, religion, sex, gender, sexuality, region of birth, creed, opinion, socioeconomic standing, or of any demographic (Yes, even furries - If they count as human (Which I take the liberty of doubting) ) is entitled to, and that all governments must be able to universally provide to all of their citizens, 24/7. For example, one of the human rights the U.N. has created that I am a particularly big fan of is the right to clean, safe, affordable drinking water for everyone. Sadly, this is not always possible.

2.2: In my small, exact community? Not exactly, but going back on the affordable water right, bottled water companies actually compete with the basic human right to clean drinking water to create and manufacture demand. You can find basically every reason I dislike this industry here, in a video by Annie Leonard (Yes, It's Vimeo. Sue me.). Though, as it happens, many religions both in my area *cough* Christianity *cough* are either currently supporting the violation of human rights or have done so in the past. In fact, Jehovah's Witnesses have lied to the Australian Royal Commission (under oath) and have (before) had a long history of protecting child abusers, especially child sex abuse. If you want more information, I'd suggest checking out a Youtube channel by the name of Telltale who is an ex-JW who talks about the Watch Tower Society (JW)'s long history of abuse, scandals, etc. etc. who also covers and evaluates other cults via the BITE model. Interesting stuff IMO, definitely recommend watching some of it. Thanks to him I've watched three cult documentaries in two days (Oof.) I mean this might appeal to me especially as an Antitheist but OOF is JW bad. Anyways, that's just my view on stuff.

2.3: A shit ton of them, from International to City levels of laws, there are checks and balances to ensure that people who violate human rights are punished accordingly. Except, of course unless it's a religious or religious extremist group in the U.S. because for SOME REASON OUR GOVERNMENT IS A SUCKER FOR LETTING PEOPLE GO UNPUNISHED OF CRIMES IF IT'S "RELIGIOUS FREEDOM" EVEN THOUGH IT'S JUST PEDOPHILIA (Looking at you, Lord our Righteousness Church & JW). Alright, sorry for the rant

2.4: I feel like the U.S. (Where I live) human rights are protected well, but they're mostly at threat in undeveloped, developing or in theocracies/overly zealous governments.

2.5: Well, depends if it's me personally, a small group of people, or my entire community. If it was just me, likely the police, or if it was severe enough, my county government, or my city council. If it was nearly every single person I knew experienced it, I'd likely try to get local government or congresswomen/congressman involved. If every single person I knew experienced it multipled times, practically every day for an extensive period of time, I'd get every agency that is able to help involved if I could.

OK, I realize that was a bit ranty and longwinded in a lot of places, and I'd hate to be the poor shmuck who has to edit whatever the hell my writing is, so here's a better version. (W/o links in case it needs to be printed or something. Also, since there's some mild profanity in that one, don't want your grade or whatever knocked down for that.

2.1: Human rights are international rights granted by the U.N. that must be available for every human regardless of socioeconomic standing, opinions, past, religion, place of birth, bloodline, etc. etc. As soon as you are born, you are entitled to every single one of these rights, without discrimination, and without exception, and not a single person nor organization is able to deprive you of these rights. Examples are freedom of speech, religion, the right to clean drinking water, the right to move between countries and within your own country, the right declaring that no human is or should be a slave or viewed as less than others by society.

2.2: So-so. In almost every corner of the globe, there's likely been some form of human rights violation. Two that spring to mind immediately are religious violations of human rights and, strangely, the bottled water industry. If you want to see why I have a gripe with the bottled water industry, basically all of the reasons I despise them can be found in a video called "The Story of Bottled Water" By Annie Leonard. By religious violations of human rights, I mean religions that either willingly, subconsciously, or unwillingly enable human rights violations or human rights violators. For example, the religious organization known as the Watch Tower Society (Better known as Jehovah's Witnesses) has been found guilty of violating an array of human rights, between protecting pedophiles & other child abusers, and shunning ex-members or critics. They've also lied under oath to the Australian Royal Commission about these abused, which isn't necessarily a violation of human rights, but nonetheless an interesting addition. Other religions and sects are guilty of similar things; some Catholic churches have been found to molest children on a wide scale, as well as blackmailing some members with information gained from Confession. Though, before you complain about me infringing upon the human right to freedom of religion, keep in mind freedom of religion also means freedom from religion. I can't infringe on your right to go yell about the end times, and you can't infringe on my right to talk about it as well. If you're interested in hearing more about some of the abuses by Jehovah's Witnesses (JW), I'd recommend looking in to a Youtube channel called Telltale, who's an ex-JW himself.

2.3: A lot of laws are in place to protect human rights. (The U.S.) From international laws, federal, state, county, and city laws are all in place to protect my friends', my family's, my community's, and my own human rights. So, yes, I'd say human rights are protected where I live, and generally pretty well in the U.S. But, sadly, that isn't the case everywhere; in developing or undeveloped countries human rights are often under protected. I also see an interesting correlation between undeveloped/developing, theocracies, and under protected human rights and how they often seem to converge on the same regions/countries.

2.4: Yes, my government, I believe, has done a good job of protecting mine, my friends', my family's, and my community's rights.

2.5: Depends on the frequency and how many people were effected. Just me, once? Likely the police or city government. My family or group of friends? Police, City Government, or County Government. Me, my family, or group of friends, systematically for an extended period of time? County or state government. Nearly or every person I knew systematically for an extensive period of time? State or Federal Government.
