Another Psa Regarding Wynntils Breaking Certain Quest Regions

Okay, so I've been noticing a lot of bug reports regarding people walking into a region (usually connected with a script cutscene) and getting kicked from the server for some sort of "java null" error. Upon logging back in, they are within the barriered area for the cutscene, but because they were disconnected the cutscene can't activate because the script wasn't activated. Thus, they are forced to use /kill, only to find that the region does the same thing again, and again, and again...

Through helping a person out with the Corrupted Betrayal jumpscare scene (the biggest offender of this for some reason), I discovered that Wynntils is the cause of this glitch. Of all cases I've seen of people reporting this, they have Wynntils installed with version 1.12.2 and upon disabling Wynntils they are able to activate the script cutscene region without being kicked.

If anyone gets this issue, the first thing you should do is temporarily disable Wynntils just to get through the particular glitched region. Wynntils only breaks that and nothing else as far as I know. You can switch to 1.13 but this is not the true solution to the issue. I am posting this mainly so people using Wynntils know that this kick glitch is being caused by the mod and can be fixed by disabling it.

Also, whoever develops Wynntils, I'd recommend looking at this for future updates so this glitch can be a thing of the past. Having to disable a mod will dissatisfy some players...

It isn't a crash, just a game kick. The client stays open but the player is disconnected from the server, resulting in a broken script cutscene since they disconnected during it.

I don't know if this can help you any but it's the only thing that appears when the glitch occurs. Entering the region without Wynntils enabled does not produce this message/kick.

 

Unfortunately a NullPointerException can occur anywhere in our thousands of lines of code. So I'll be trying to replicate the error. It happens on starting a cutscene? If so any or could you name the specific quest?

 

There might be a log of the stacktrace placed somewhere in the .minecraft folder.

 

Like I said, I don't use Wynntils so I don't have any logs of the glitch. However most script cutscene regions are bugged so feel free to test it yourself and collect the data. All I know is that the mod is causing this to glitch up and I posted this simply so players experiencing the bug can know Wynntils is causing it.

That's part of the reason I've addressed it. The community deserves to know if a bug that can result in multiple deaths arises, especially if the cause is already known. I apologize that you had to go through that, but hopefully no one else will endure your pain.

 

I found the issue and will be pushing a fix later today if further testing proofs successful.

We've pushed a fix to or cutting edge download stream, and, will be adding it to the main version soon. If you'd like to switch to the cutting edge download stream - go into Wynntils' settings (Default key: P) and under Core change download stream.

It has been fixed in one of the recent development builds, there hasn’t been a push to the stable release yet though so if you’d like the fix you have to change your update stream from stable to cutting edge for now to try it out until it has been released.
