Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

“See you in the morning.” Anne says, nuzzling you.

 

Katie just nods, looking worried.


A Shadow eventually checks on the humanoid, looking rather confused at the bone.

 

“Maybe I could find another healer to help Xlentia while I do other things? I don’t know anyone really good, though.”


It peeks out at them through the bone before the dome ‘folds’ up and condenses back around their arms as their exoskeleton.

“Hhhhhii?” It rasps.

 

And.. I'll drift off.

 

"Artemis is good at healing!" Katie says happily.


"Oh, you're awake. You must be the new guy who arrived here last night. Training's already started, follow me." The Shadow says with a smile.

 

“Whaddya mean?”

 

“She’s also really busy already. I can’t just have her spend all day tending to the wounded.”


It follows them, seeming somewhat untrusting again.

“The tether doesn’t really have one fixed length, it’s sort of elastic.”

This time, you don’t dream.

You’re woken up by something soft tapping on your nose.

 

"Hm..." Katie says, thinking.


The Shadow leads the humanoid back to the entrance to the dojo; though this time, all of the training equipment seems to be in use. The bearded Shadow walks over to the pair, smiling.

"Ah, it's good to see you. I am sure you are anxious to begin your training here," The bearded Shadow says, "Though, I'll need a name to call you by."

 

I twitch my nose.
"Eh.. mhrr.."

 

“Maybe she knows someone that could?”


It tilts his head, unsure, but once the shadow mentions the word ‘name,’ it points to an etching on one of its shoulder exoskeletal plates.
“If anyone asks who you are, say Arie.”

“Aaay... rrrie.” It rasps.

Whatever’s poking at you doesn’t stop, winding up lightly slapping your snout.

 

"El... oh, yeah, okay."

 

"Yeah! She's bound to know some other forest guardians that can help!" Katie says positively.


"Hm, your voice appears to be damaged. Perhaps I can help with that, it would be unwise to train a hurt student after all. Come with me." The bearded Shadow says, leading the humanoid back inside.

 

"Maybe I can convince Xlentia to be willing to pay them. Though... that could go really badly for me."


It shakes its head.
"Aaaaah... mmm. fffffiee... nnn. Aah... mmm. hhhh... earnnn iiin."

"Do you not know what elastic means?"

 

"I mean, I didn't, then I remembered."

 

"Why?" Katie asks, tilting her head slightly in confusion.


"Please, rest your voice. I'm sure I'll be able to help." The bearded Shadow says, waiting by the entrance to the dojo.

 

“How often does a dragon appreciate being told to give up any part of its hoard?”


It stands still, uneasily defiant.

“That... actually, how does your memory work, anyways?”

 

"Well, it'd be for a good cause!" Katie says.


The bearded Shadow looks a little disappointed after a while, though continues to wait.

"Please, follow. Nothing bad will happen."

 

I'll wave my hand at it.

 

"...I dunno."
Crystal shrugs.
"I think about something, then sometimes I know it and sometimes I don't."

 

It’s furry, soft to the touch and light enough to get flung a bit as you swat it away.

A few seconds later, it tries to tickle your nose into getting you to sneeze by quickly running its fur back and forth along your snout.

“More questions I have about Voidfiller then, I guess... Speaking of, do you know how he’s doing right now?”

“Moody dragons don’t care about reason.”


“Nnnnnnoo hhhheeeeaa... llliiinn. Aaaaa... mmm ffffiii-ennn.”
