Does Archer Seem Kind Of Weak To Anyone Else?

Like, the power of the arrows and spells is just fine, but its countered *so hard* by how glassy the archer is. Imo the defense should be buffed to 75 or 80%, that way it's more in line with the mage class.

 

Nah, archer is fine. Its glassiness shouldn't be much of a problem since you deal your damage from a distance, instead of running in hacking and slashing.

 

Archer has the highest dps in the game but also the lowest survivability in the game. It's defense doesn't need a buff since it is meant to be a glassy movement class. Tbh, I don't have that much of a problem with defenses, but it is noticeably easier to get ohko by bosses.

 

I'd say getting ohko by bosses is a problem that needs to be fixed.

Sometimes you can't really deal damage from a distance. Archer gets kinda screwed by projectiles and closed spaces.

Not really. There's some bosses that are designed to ohko anyone and everything AHEM Cybel AHEM. Archer just is significantly easier to ohko due to it's low defense, but like Hoy said you can just stay away from the boss because it's a

That's a couple flaws that archer has, like many other classes. Good thing you can try to reduce those flaws.

You can dodge projectiles, have awareness in where you position, and several other things.
Keep in mind, you can outrange many bosses if the arena is big enough, but lets say it isn't. Archer has speed to move around their enemies to kite them and try to not get hit.

Another example to use to demonstrate a class's flaws is assassin.
They have pretty good dps, however have low range and have to their damage with risk of getting up close to their target. Still, they are still pretty good class to play as.

 

I know I tried doing the Ice barrows dungeon at the same level with a mage and an archer, and the mage had a MUCH easier time getting through the dungeon then my archer did. I have more fun with the archer class though, so it's a shame it's so glassy.

Ridiculously large hp pools to avoid being ohko. You've basically only got two options for tanking as archer, being agility or hp. That's why things like Ignis are actually good because they can still hit 14k+hp while getting good bomb damage.
Putting spare sp into def is useless on mage/archer for the most part. Investing into def to use a fire build is not.

If they can't kill you in a short amount of time as mage, then you won't die.

 

So is it less of a "archer is weak" and more of a "mage is kinda broken" sort of thing? I always thought potions kind of made mage less... unique, I guess, than the other classes.

 

Mage isn't as broken as people make it seem. It by far has the lowest damage output of all the classes, and since heal's nerf it's not that broken (although before it's nerf it was). It also is noticeably easier to ohko (not to the extent of archer), and heal spell is useless if you're already dead. Despite that it can be ohko easier, heal spell is still a force to be reckoned with, hence it probably has the best or 2nd best survivability of the 4 classes (the competitor for that being warrior). I'd also argue mage is the easiest class to use but maybe that's just me.

it could use a buff early-game tho, it gets butchered by hordes before lvl 21

 

Nothing really challenges the archer early game imo. It's easy enough to get to lvl 21. I dunno, maybe this is my fault? Should I level up more before going through the dungeons? I meet the minimum level requirement for Ice Barrows IIRC.
