Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

"Sorry."

I'll yell with a bit of guilt in my voice, while she runs off.

 

She cloaks herself and flies up, trying to get a view of just how far from the forest she was left.

You feel a patch of cool air hang near your shoulder. It's a lot colder than having Anne sitting there...

 

She seems to have been left in a large town a few miles from the forest she was next to. However, the town appears to be on the opposite side.

 

“Right. Localized hostility. Guardian things.” She mumbles, flying until she’s above most clouds before gliding lazily.

 

As soon as Iris pops out of the clouds, she feels something hit her rather hard, pushing her down. Something grabs her, before a strong blast of air reveals a young air guardian holding on to Iris within the cloud.

"Sorry about that, I couldn't see you through the clouds." The air guardian says apologetically.

 

I'll try to follow her as good as I can while she runs across the roof tops.

 

I continue petting him.


“Well, I kinda over-pitched the interest rate, but he took it, so that’s on him. And, when I collect, I always give some extra time in case money’s tight. If he doesn’t pay, then I take everything that my money bought him.”

 

Iris uncloaks, staff jewel still crimson.
“I take it you’re not going to leave me in another landfill?”

After another minute, he gets up and starts drinking from the fountain.


“Why do I feel like you’re not telling me the whole truth?”

You can’t even begin to follow her, but she comes back a minute later.
“Okay, we’re overcomplicating this. There’s a main path paved up to the door, and it is a church.”

 

"Huh?" The air guardian asks, confused.

 

“Forest guardians.” Iris shrugs. “Regardless... who are you?”

 

"Oh, I'm Adrian. How'd you get up here anyway?" Adrian asks, flying Iris out of the cloud.

 

Iris stretches out one of her wings.
“I mean, I could fly normally, levitate, teleport and project a platform in the middle of the sky, negate gravity, stand on a column of air... I just flew up here, though.”

 

"Mind to lead me there then?"

 

"Are you some kind of demon, then?" Adrian asks, intrigued.

 

“I... guess? I am a type of shadow, though not the kind you know.”

Anne jumps down, landing on your shoulder with a surprising amount of force.
“Yeah, take the first two lefts and then the right out to the main path. There’s a sign for the church, actually, and we somehow missed it.”

 

"Oh, why aren't you burning up? It's pretty bright up here." Adrian says, confused.

 

“That’s a bit much to explain, though I’m not from this reality. Where I’m from, shadows are not creatures of darkness but rather thoughts and dreams made sentient through fear and nightmares.”

 

I'll start jogging down the streets.

"First two left, then right. Got it."

 

The directions wind up being easy to follow, and as you reach the main road again you see a small sign pinned to a lightpost mentioning a monk visiting in two days.

 

Adrian looks confused.

"You're joking, right?" Adrian asks.
