Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

I'll head off towards the shapeshifters village.

 

The walk is uneventful, but you notice that the air behind you is slightly colder than normal.

Upon approaching the gates, the guards step aside to let you in before blocking the way again.
“Hey, isn’t that-“
“I repaid my debts and apologized, what gives?” Anne grumbles.

 

"Is there a problem?"

 

“I’d say so as well.”
I lower my hand to scratch Buddy’s cheek.

 

"Abigail." Abigail says, making a peace sign.

 

"No... no, not anymore." One guard sighs as they step away.
"Don't cause any more trouble than you have, Anne."

"I, uh... heard mean things about you, I think."

"Fair warning, if there's something in the way of your return trip after visiting Stella, you'll find yourself back home instead."

 

"Alright."
I'll keep walking, not paying much attention to the guards.

 

“And that is one reason out of many why I’m glad to have you around.” Anne sighs.
“Though, uh... remind me what we’re here for?”

 

"Oh, really?" Abigail asks, looking innocent and hurt.

"Like what?" Abigail continues, expression suddenly turning sinister.

 

"I wanted to ask some of the town folk if they knew about certain charms that help you see spirits."

 

“My home, here?”

 

"Yes, sorry. I forget that you're not from here."

"Oh, right. Keep on going until you get to town square, then there should be a magic shop in sight. Unless they closed after the building got singed."

The fae ducks back behind the rock pile and plays a loud, screeching note on their flute in response.

A single small cloud appears high above the rock pile a few seconds afterwards.

 

"Well, that's not too bad, then."

 

"You could probably have Stella calibrate it to warp you out to wherever you live, but that'd be sort of an issue on the way back into deep space."

 

"No, that's not needed."
I shake my head.

 

"What's the luck on that.. The one shop I need right now is the one that you lit aflame."

 

Abigail looks at the cloud, confused.

 

She feels as if something's glaring at her from above.

"It's been four years, if they haven't rebuilt then... well, okay yeah sorry."

"It's on the table nonetheless."

 

"I guess it is."
Pause.
"So, what about you?"

 

"Where I'm from?"
