Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

“Maybe. Though, there are many games one can play by themselves.”

 

Katie carefully puts the box down.

"What do they do?" Katie asks curiously.

 

The guard first lifts the necklace with crossed daggers carved in an inlaid gem.
“Tracker’s charm, which lets you see hostility in nearby creatures as well as masking your scent, granting darkvision and reducing the noise created by simple travel.”
Then he lifts the necklace with jewels shaped into a vortex symbol.
“Voidling’s charm, will send a creature back here if something goes wrong to bring Xlentia out. It should also be able to help you navigate, should you know where to go.”
One of the gems suddenly opens an eye and a tiny claw sticks out from one of the other gems, waving at Katie.

“Not quite as many in an endless black void, but true.”

 

"Depends on the person."

 

"Yeah, yeah. Ofcourse."

 

Katie waves back.

"Rineth got these for me? That's really kind of him." Katie says happily.

 

The creature goes back into pretending to be a gem.

"You're going out into dangerous territory. You need at least something."

"Possible personality alterations don't help either."

"There are some charms that can let you see nearby spirits. I don't know of any vendors that carry them here, but I've read about them in several libraries."

 

"Interesting. Maybe some of the town's folk know about any. There has to be someone."

 

"I can handle myself." Katie says confidently, grabbing her double trident from her back and spinning it.

 

"Mm."
I make a vague agreement and shrug.

 

“It goes without saying, but I haven’t been in town in a while.” Rema says.
“I could look too.”

Buddy rushes by between the benches, chasing Soul and Lune with the frisbee.

“Just be careful, that’s not even long enough to get through the hide of some beasts out there.”

 

"Well, Aj told me everyone has a weak spot, so I just need to find that!" Katie says happily.

 

"Yeah, maybe asks you neighbours?"

 

"Do remember that many void creatures are opportunists. Each and every wound draws in a hundred eyes.”

“That’s be Epsi, who isn’t particularly... easy to get details out of.”

 

"So the creatures I wound can serve as distractions!" Katie says sweetly, though a sense of malice seems to hide in her words.

 

The guard scans Katie for another soul within, particularly looking for a shadow.
“There’s a fine line between self defense and making Xlentia go after you personally for harming her subjects.”

 

The only soul inside Katie is her own. There are no traces of any kind of Shadow ever being there, even.

"I-I don't want to anger Xlentia! I'm just worried about wild creatures attacking me..." Katie says, any malice replaced by innocence as Katie looks a little scared.

 

“Self defense is fine. Going out of your way to stab something as a diversion is not.”

 

"I meant if they attacked me, I'd attack them and the other creatures would be drawn to them!" Katie says happily.

 

“Of course... stay safe, Katie.” The guard nods, vanishing.
