Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

A doctor soon comes into Rineth's room.

"Ah, Rineth, awake and well I see. How are you feeling after your surgery?" The doctor asks, smiling.

 

“Fair enough.”
I shrug, then continue to walk the dog.

 

"Well, I can feel one wing and my jaw, but that's pretty much all I came here to be treated for."

"By the way, most of the buildings are empty. Sometimes the crew gets bored and this town turns into a simulated battlefield. We haven't had one in a while, just a heads up."

 

"Excellent, excellent," The doctor says happily, "No pains or aches?"

 

"Nope." Rineth shakes his head slowly.

 

"Can you try getting up and moving around, then?" The doctor asks.

 

Rineth attempts to sit up, then stand up.

 

Nothing restricts Rineth, aside from his bed's duvet which moves out of the way without resistance. The doctor watches, nodding.

"Well, it looks like you're fully healed. I'll go get some forms and see if I can get you out of here within the hour." The doctor says positively.

 

Rineth nods.

After the doctor leaves, Rineth chuckles before turning to Katie.
"They aren't aware of my other body, I take it."

 

"I don't think they've made the association." Katie says happily.

 

“Huh. Good to know.”
I continue walking.

 

“I need to explain my absence, anyways. Xlentia probably thinks I vanished somewhere.”

The dog continues to keep close to your hip, the town as silent as Thirteen said it would be.

 

"Or she's asleep too." Katie says, giggling.

 

"I don't think she's closed her eyes longer than a blink since Emerald disappeared."

 

"Is she as worried about her as us?" Katie asks.

 

I look in some of the buildings to find anything of interest.

 

"If not more. Keep in mind that Emerald often kept Xlentia in check and in her chambers. She's now free to roam around wherever her whim brings her and Emerald's not around to curb her... occasional bursts of enthusiasm for her job. Plus, her only means of communication are now going somewhere in person and the limited power the mage crystals her armor contains."

You enter what seems to be a completely empty cafe, hold for a note left on the counter that says "Be back in about ten. Vibroblades due for delivery, need to sign for package."

 

"Aj said the mage crystals in her armour were really strong though." Katie says, sounding concerned.

 

"They are strong... but limited. They give her some freedom, but not much. Keep in mind Xlentia is nicknamed the Great Destroyer - left unchecked, she lives up to this name. Emerald kept her company, kept her reasonable. As Xlentia gathers strength over time, she slowly starts to lose her sense of self. You may remember a long time ago when she first attacked you and your friends while she was mind controlled, and how she seemed to snap out of it near the end. The Hive Master abused her loss of reason to try and kill you, but reaching out to her brought her back enough to resist. He wasn't using her directly as a puppet at the time, simply because he didn't need to."

 

"So, he just gave her direction instead of controlling her?" Katie asks, worried.
