"I shouldn't need to spend much more time here. At the same time, though, I hope Tenebrae can at least be warned about the edge beasts before she travels that far out."

 

"How can a mortal enslave a god?"

 

I open the gate more and travel out to see what there is to see.

 

"I'll tell Aj to warn her the next time I see him!" Katie says happily.

 

"One mortal can't, but many can. He's nicknamed the Hive Master, and he has countless beings under his control. He then has access to all of their strength combined, and once he managed to mind control one of us, he could use that god's strength to mind control more."

There's a handful of trees growing in a huge yard, an empty driveway leading out to a small town at the bottom of a hill.

"If I manage to contact her, I'll try to remember to do so as well.

 

"Yeah, things might go really bad if Tenebrae gets hurt." Katie says, looking a little fearful.

 

"I don't mean to say they are more important than Lady Tenebrae, but nothing has brought harm to the edge beasts in generations. Nobody knows how'd they react if one was wounded, and I'm not keen on adding another element of surprise into the current chaos."

 

"Well, I don't think Tenebrae would attack someone without good reason. I don't think she'd be so scared she'd wound one without reason." Katie says happily.

 

“Seeing something bigger than you take a defensive stance and try to make you give it distance is a pretty good reason.”

 

Katie thinks for a bit, before nodding in agreement.

"How are we going to make sure things don't go wrong?" Katie asks.

 

“We could send someone with her, but that’d still be extremely risky. Furthermore, telepathy is impossible that close to the edge of the Void. If something did go wrong, Tenebrae couldn’t let anyone know on her own.”

 

"Maybe she could take the goddess of space with her, so they could teleport away?" Katie suggests.

 

“Caelia would be able to manipulate their size, but I’m not sure if teleportation would work quite as intended. That alone should keep them safe, from the edge beasts at least.”

 

"What about time magic?" Katie asks.

 

“I don’t know how chronomancy is affected. Nobody’s tried using it out there.”

 

Katie thinks for a bit.

"What about normal magic?" Katie says, curious.

 

"You mean things like innate abilities?"

 

"Like Stephanie's mother!" Katie says happily.

 

"Ah... I don't know. It seems to be a very case-by-case basis on what it effects, somewhat random for everyone who draws near. I can say that more things are restricted the closer to the edge you get, but... well, the edge beasts don't usually let anyone get too close."

 

"...How did Emerald get lost there, then?" Katie asks, confused.
