You start to see a thin, triangular shape with something that resembles and axe-head at the tip of the triangle through the fog.
On top of it is something that looks like a fin or a blade.

 

I touch it to see if it's sharp

 

As you get closer, you see it's emerald green.
At your touch, the thing jerks to the side, you see an orange eye glaring at you. Heavy breathing can be heard. You feel a warmth fill the immediate area.

 

I step away hand in the air and say ''I mean no harm''

 

Although the color fades away, you still see the glaring orange eye staring at you.
A low rumbling emanates and a blast of orange light is thrown out of the mouth of the thing.
This is followed by the head slumping down onto the ground, and a whining.
A low, rumbling voice is heard.
"It would not make any difference either way. I cannot do anything to protect myself..."

"I am Tharo, and what I am at the moment is trapped."

The orange glow of the eye intensifies
Tharo (lower, almost a growl): ”I wouldn’t mind some, then.”

 

I personally think this is a dude stuck in a gelatinous cube or an oblex, probably the last one.

 

A dude with a triangular head one third your length covered in green scales?

 

what check would i make to know what race he is?

 

You can only guess, since the only thing you see is their head, which as I said is large.
