Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

"Okay.. I'm seeing things."

 

Rineth moves his tongue around, checking his jaw.


An orange egg with a note attached lies next to her door, along with a yellow-red gradient feather.
“Dear stranger,
I hope you can forgive me for entrusting you blindly with my child. I cannot give it a life filled with love, care, or even a home. Your volcano seemed like a much more suitable place to grow up than where I hail.

Its life and wellbeing is up to you. I can barely keep myself alive, never mind my only surviving child.”
The note appears signed, but is scratched, singed, and a bit bloody where the signature usually would be.

“Classified intel dug up from an extinction event. Your code is nearly identical.”

“You hopefully will see a couple of werewolves in a minute.”

 

His jaw seems to be mostly healed. It aches a bit, but it's definitely in better condition than it was.


Abigail looks for wherever the parent flew off to, before delicately picking up the egg in exchange for her cup of tea.

 

He looks nervous.
"I hope so too."

 

He lays back down.
“Tenebrae... the hell was that...?” He thinks.


Two portals open nearby in the air, a dragon ripping a fleeing phoenix out of the sky and dragging it by the neck through the portal.

The phoenix glances desperately at Abigail as the portals close.

 

There's no response.


Abigail glances down at the egg in her hands, thinking.

 

“I’m guessing by the title ‘classified’, I can’t access it.”

 

After about another minute, one werewolf spectre is visible, looking at you and smiling.
“Bardock...? Is that really you?”

He just relaxes again.


The egg is warm, but it seems to be cooling off slightly.

“It’s paper only information.”

 

“Where are the papers?”

 

“That’s a classified digital file.”

 

A while later, a nurse comes in to check on Rineth.

"Oh, you're awake. That's good to see, you've been out for a week. Your friend there has come back every day." The nurse says, gesturing to Katie.


Abigail heads down her steps to the lava of the volcano, trying to keep the egg warm over it.

 

"Yes."

Who is it?

 

"A week... I wonder if Tenebrae even knows..." Rineth mumbles.


It seems to be working, but holding the egg over the lava all day isn't a great use of time.

"It's been too long. Do you remember me after all this time?"

She's your... mother, I think. I can't remember her name. You're the brains here, anyways.

 

"It has, and it makes it difficult to remember any faces."

 

"Hm?" The nurse asks, glancing up from the clipboard at the end of Rineth's bed.


Abigail runs back up the steps once the egg is warm, turning on her kettle again and filling her sink with hot water, putting the egg inside to keep it warm.

 

“Right.”
Pause.
“So, what did you do?”

 

“I tell you, and I have problems all over again. How much is this worth to you?”

“Tenebrae’s subconsciousness. I suppose Temporus would enable a time flow that warped...”


The egg shifts a bit in response.

“Laura.” She says, seeming a bit saddened. “Did we really raise you that poorly?”

 

“A lot, considering you tinkered with the actual fiber of my being.”
I comment, serious.
“...What kind of problems?”

 

"I'm sorry? Why do you say that?"

 

The nurse just gives Rineth a concerned look like he's insane, scribbling something down on the clipboard.

"Well, try not to move too much. I'll go and get you some food and water." The nurse says, leaving.


Abigail hurries off, soon returning with a phone and scrolling through online articles, taking a picture of the egg to search with it.
