At first, it's just normal sand, but a little bit farther in, it's covered in some sort of gleaming transparent orange stuff.

What check to try to know what this is?
Also, poke it with my sword. How hard is it?

The sword makes a soft dent in the material, it seems sticky.

Your finger sinks into the substance. Here snd there you can see small bubbles of air, and some sand scattered within it.
It resembles tree sap (aslo called tree blood I think)
